greatest soldiers

Post by pauk »

first.. let me introduce myself.. this is my first post
so, what i mean about this question. First at all i think that is impossible comparate different historic period, because many reasons (weapons, tactics, etc).
So i think that would be better to divide into a periods (by the use of weapons: second world war, anthics...)
and finally.. to me the best is Heinz Guderian in the WW II.

Although this is propably the wrong forum for this discussion:

"During the Winter War, Simo Häyhä was credited with 505 kills in less than 90 days. Simo operated independently, using a 7.62-caliber bolt-action rifle M-28/30 with iron sights. His unit was the 34th Infantry regiment assigned to the Kollaa front." -- http://www.imtt.net/article3.html

Do I have to say more? <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

I'd vote for Sergeant Jacob Vouza of the Solomons Coastwatcher force. Tied to a tree with barb-wire, bayoneted several times and left for dead by the Japanese, he managed to get himself free and report to the Marines at Guadalcanal. One tough you know what. Made an honorary Marine by the 1st Marine Division. Probably the greatest honour the leathernecks could bestow.

Damn right Halgary.. Simo Häyhä's deeds truly were unquestionably amazing. Two votes for him.

"During the Winter War in 1939, Russian death tolls rose to over 1 million men. In this same period, Finland suffered approximately 40,000 losses. These numbers were only recently confirmed by Russia, who concealed its true losses for more than 50 years. So goes the tale of Simo and the cold, iron will of the Finns"

"I'm told that the Finnish military holds itself to a hard-and-fast pledge that it will never leave its dead or wounded on the field of battle. The Finnish vow to always recover and carry their dead back to Finland for burial. During the Winter War, Russia attempted to dominate Finland, occupy her land and oppress her people. Alone, the Finns fought Russia for the survival of their way of life. Some of the highest aerialcombat kill numbers on record are held by Finnish pilots. Finns have an abiding commitment to family, home, country and religion. The average man is over six feet tall, and martial arts are extremely popular , as are outdoor activities. National defense is a source of great pride and respect for all Finns."

Yeah we finns kick ass!)

Nice sniping article. Ive was infact our battalions best shooter in the army. Got lots of 10s and only few 9s. Shooted all mark-plates in tests even though once i couldnt see them cos of the shadows. Ranked nro2 in the list of shooting/navigation tests even though there were officeer trainees and sergeants taking part it too. (I was only 6 months jaeger.)
