Can new ships be on "manual control" by default?

Post by Grotius »

Enjoying the expansion so far! But I thought I'd read that I could choose an option whereby newly-built ships would be under manual control, not automatic. I generally want direct control over my ships, especially at the start. Is there a way to do this? Right now I give an order to every new ship, which does the trick too, so it's not THAT big a deal, but an option to make "manual" the default would prevent the AI from whisking away my ships before I give them an order.

When you are going through the menus to set up your game there is a small check box on the set up your empire screen to have all ships start on auto control. I don't know if there is a way once the game has started to change it.

Escape > Options > Empire Settings > last item on page: Newly build ships are automated.

If you've started the game already, then you need to enter the "Ships & Bases" screen and
uncheck/clear the mark at the end of the row for each ship you don't want automated. Works
for both ships already built and those being built or in queues to be built.
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...

Ah, OK, thanks. Sounds like I missed it when setting up the game.

Not exactly, there is no option in the game setup screens for it. What TheGrudge was talking about was going into the options menu before starting a game and setting up the options to his liking. There is nothing in the options screen that cannot be altered once you have started a game.

Yep, you can change this option anytime Grotius. If you haven't fully explored the in-game options and option sub-screens, please do so, there's a lot of good stuff there.
