Game unstable

Post by wurger54 »

My game crashes a lot. I have to run it in the reduced screen size. It will no run when maximized at all. Lots of rebooting.

What is your system (and specs - i.e. what is your CPU, how much RAM, what graphics card)?

Do you have reasonably new drivers installed for graphics (and sound)?

As Leo said so far most usual cause for the CTDs were old drivers. You may post dxdiag - we can check it as well..

I stopped CTD's by renaming the sound folder and running on the lower game resolution. That's for my 7 year old desktop. No problems on my newer laptop! maybe after I get Christmas paid for, I'll shop for a new desktop and monitor?

Great Game by the way......I've waited more than 20 years for this!

Thanks for your concern. I'm on the laptop right now. Sound is not a problem with me. I almost hardly ever play with it on anyway! I'm even surprised that the game even runs on my desktop! After all it is 7 yrs old and only has 1 gig of shared ram. The video only supports 64 meg and Intel stopped issueing updated drivers for it last year. After I renamed the sound folder to nosound and run the game on the lower resolution, I've not had any CTD's. My laptop hasn't had any problems whatsoever.

Back to the desktop. The only thing that I have trouble with are slow mouse clicks and the movements are a little jerky, but I attribute that to the lack of ram and only 64 meg of video ram! If you still want a dxdiag for the desktop, I can post it when I turn on the desktop next?

No it is not urgent, or mandatory. I'm just trying to keep the record of possible sound problems, as it is the most difficult to track do far.

Yes, you need a lot of patience to play on 7yo machine. My 4yo box run it very smooth though. But I had to add more RAM (6G) to be able to run several game instances at once.

OK. When I boot it up later today, I'll post it for you. I'm sure that the desktop will have a lot of problems when I graduate to one of the Campaign Scenario's!! All the more reason to replace it.....

Thanks, must be a driver issue. But yes, playing with 1G RAM could be very painful even without crashes.

Like I stated earlier, I'm surprised that it runs as good as it does! I'm not going to spend any money upgrading this box. A new one will be in the works shortly...
