Transport pre-selection

Post by Toro »

Seems I saw a mention of this somewhere...?

Can I identify troops to be picked up by a transport TF at the location the transport is heading, but BEFORE the transport arrives? IOW eg, TF 201 is being sent to Noumea from Brisbane, where I want it to pick up unit X. Can I give the load order to the TF before it arrives in Noumea?

Why is this an issue?

Why? Mostly so that I can order a TF to a location and not have to follow-up on it when it gets there. I'm not saying it's an issue, really, mostly just wondering IF it could be done (would save some time).

Greetings!

In the manual (9.6, page 45), there is discussion of Fast Transport TF's being allowed to perform Evacuation Orders. Plain vanilla Transport TF's aren't allowed to perform such a mission. Per (9.22, page 61), form a Fast Transport TF and then select either Load Troops or Load Only Troops. You will notice a new button for ordering Pick Up Unit. This order will allow your Fast Transport TF to proceed to the destination hex and pick up the unit as you requested. I'm sorry that you can't do this with a Transport TF though, Toro.

I am so excited! My first answer.

What I wish I could do is have a transport TF pick up troops and supplies at Base A, dock at Base B WITHOUT unloading anything to fuel and wait, and then head to Base C.

Hi SoulB,

I hear ya. I have gotten used to sending them to a spot in the middle of the ocean, and because they usually carry lots of fuel, they can hang out for a while. APs/AOs/AKs also tend to not get sys damage too fast while at sea, so this seems to work. If need be, I'll send along a replentishment TF.

Inigo: you go!
