Airgroups in Nat. Reserve not repairing?

Post by ussdefiant »

When playing as the Soviets in a new 1.01 game, i have noticed a rather severe problem that seems to be creeping up regarding the Red Air Force units that have been sitting in the Nat. Reverse busy hiding from the Luftwaffe for the last 6 turns after getting the crap kicked out of them in turn 1. Namely, none of those 89 groups seem to be trying to fix themselves at all, with 642 out of 1489 planes still being damaged, and another 270 still sitting around in reserve. that figure is even slightly lopsided, given that 6 of the groups have 30+ total planes, with 65 ShAP having 57 damaged I-15bis and 7 ready, and 7 TBAP having 53 damaged TB-3s, 1 reserve plane, and only 8 ready to fly, with no sign of any excess damaged planes going to the pool or anything. Even the 40 new-formed groups sitting in the Reserve, with all but 2 having 50% or more theoretical total strenght, still have the highest ready total being 8, with a large portion of planes sitting in reserve, and one U-2VS group even having 10 damaged planes for some reason. Everything in the pool still have quite plentiful replacement avaliable, so a shortage of those shouldn't be a reason.

Out on the front, aircraft replacements seem to be working properly, with the exception that a number of groups with an exceedingly large number of aircraft damaged from Barbarossa seem not to be getting fixed out there either in some cases. For instance, in the 50 DBAD Air Base near Rostov, two of the three IL-4 groups are severely oversized with damaged planes, with 1 having 5 ready planes with 26 damaged ones, and one having a whopping 55 damaged planes and 0 ready ones. Should these not be heading to the pool at some point?

I have moved all of my aircraft out of the National reserve for this reason - they seem to come up to TOE much faster once they are based.

With the Germans its the same thing. What I try to do is keep a few airfields (1 or 2 at most) in Poland, where they are not disturbed so as to have the groups recover and upgrade.

Still replacements in the frontline seem to be very slow in coming, even when there are many available. Also I haven't any idea if the HQ units actually speed up repairs or not.

Air management is still a bit vague in my head....

Sorry, only just noticed the thread.

There was a bug where air units distributed aircraft in a weird way that I found pre-release, I haven't seen anomalies after that but I'll point a developer this way.

Not sure if it was supposed to address the issue but I found that since the 2nd beta patch air reserve units' morale and equipment increase but fatigue does not seem to reduce.

If it WAD, what would be the difference between placing units in the reserve to rest and refit as opposed to keeping them in airfields with a percentage to fly > 100%

There is a small morale benefit, but I'm not sure what it is. Probably just a point or some random of a few points.

Glad to hear that! Had an inkling but I thought that my units were too fatigued in the first place.

BTW do units in National reserve get replacement aircraft or just repair those that are damaged?

How long until this next patch comes out, so the pilots can actually get some sleep?

My guess is that we'll have the next beta patch out next week sometime.

Urk, my tired air units that I put into airbases a good distance from the front aren't resting there either.  The bases are set to under 20 hex flying, so there shouldn't be any action going on.
