pass forcefield

I'm stack, i can't pass the forcefield. i tried hitting the forcefield generator with melee several times but nothing happens. Any help?

Here's how to get past the forcefield.

**SPOILER**
Have one of your team "use" the barrel in the corner of the room. They will push it over near to the forcefield.
After the cutscene finishes, have whichever of your team is carrying the gun shoot at the barrel. It will explode, destroying the forcefield generator on one side of the room, allowing you to escape.
