Mouse click issues worse in '41 winter???

Post by Redmarkus5 »

I had minor problems with mouse click and unit selection from the outset of the campaign, but as soon as the snow fell in game, the problems intensified 10-fold. Now, it's very difficult to set up a Soviet deliberate attack, due to these issues:

1. When using Shift to select multiple stacks, the stacks are randomly deselected while the shift key is still depressed.

2. With Shift held down, other stacks that I don't want are auto-selected without me clicking on them. I just need to pass the pointer over a stack and it's selected.

3. It takes 2-3 seconds before the Attack icon appears over the target units. Doesn't sound much, but it feels like forever.

All scrolling and mouse action in general have become very sticky and seem to be affected by the cold! Game is barely playable at the moment.

It seems many others are experiencing similar issues with deliberate attacks. I know I am. Has anyone found a work around?

For me I start each shift selection fresh as in I select a unoccupied hex. Then I press shift and select the attack.

I've never seen this. So you're saying that you see many units showing on the unit bar on the right, but as you are moving the mouse around some of the units come off the unit bar? What exactly are you doing when this happens?

2. With Shift held down, other stacks that I don't want are auto-selected without me clicking on them. I just need to pass the pointer over a stack and it's selected.

Yes, this is how it works. When shift key (or button) is held down, any unit passed over will be added to the selected unit list.

3. It takes 2-3 seconds before the Attack icon appears over the target units. Doesn't sound much, but it feels like forever.

All scrolling and mouse action in general have become very sticky and seem to be affected by the cold! Game is barely playable at the moment.

Sounds bad. Have you tried turning off weather graphics in the map preferences? I can't imagine what would be making the game slow down in winter other than perhaps the added graphics. Have you tried saving the game, exiting the program and restarting? Is it still bad when you first start up and load the save?

Turning the weather graphics off made a huge difference. The auto-deselection of stacks appears to have gone away immediately and the mouse is way more responsive now. I had also forgotten how great the map looks without the snow on top of it.

I guess that in a future iteration there will just be 3 map versions - clear, mud and snow, so that we don't need to use processing power to overlay weather graphics on each map hex?
