Sweet Gameplay Sequence

Post by Tacit_Exit »

Just had to relay this short spell from my recent game.

I'm playing a cluster map with the goal of taking all the planets in my cluster only, so am rushing up the col. techs. Have found an Ice planet on the edge of my cluster with the Troop bonus (Fortress of Toorak iirc) which is also close to my Naxillian friends, so I set a destroyer to guard it while getting the tech to colonise it.

As I'm not at war with the Nax, I babysit the planet; sure enough a Nax colonyship turns up which I dispatch unceremoniously.

At 90% Ice Colonisation Tech another Nax col.ship appears; but before I can order my Destroyer to attack it, I notice its 'escaping Destroyer xxx', despite the fact that we aren't at war. Apparently my destroyer has a rep. [:D]

So I get Ice Col. Tech and send a Boskaran Col. Ship to what will become a producer of the most bloodthirsty ground troops the universe has seen, and I think in pre-RotS terms 'do I want to ferry these super-troopers to all my planets as would be the smart, but super-tedious move' then I realise I have the clone troop facility tech.

Now I get it, every planet gets a troop cloner, except the super troop planet which gets a Troop Academy, I turn off auto Troop builder, delete my crappy troops, produce one awsome troop, turn the troop builder AI back on and voila; all my planets are building mad troops.

Small things that make me happy about buying this game [:)]

Cool idea! I wonder if it could be changed so that the quality of the troop trained is related to how harsh the world is. Then it would give you a reason to colonize one or two harsh fireball worlds.

Yeah, thats exactly the strategy I use. I was so happy when I first thought of it during the beta. It is pretty much the core of my troop strategy. Good move sending the Boskara, they are second only to the Shakturi in troop strength.

Pretty sure troop strength should not be linked to planet quality for the vanilla game. Though I would be delighted if changes to core mechanics like that could be modded in by people eventually.

Heh, I have a similar story.

I found sleeping Shakturi in a colony ship (which may in itself be a bug? not sure) really early on, so right from the start I have a little shakturi colony. I research the troop academies and here I am making super strong elite shakturi troops. One quick battle with a small colony encroaching on my territory seems to have maxed that troop out on combat strength (they were close to begin with). Then I research cloning facility... Suddenly I have hundreds of top tier best possible troops.

Long story short, as soon as the Shakturi showed up I conquered them within a minute or so using my force of elite Shakturi clone troops.

I think the cloning facility is a bit overpowered. So much so that next time I'm just not going to use it. Endless armies of maximum strength troopers is just a bit much.
