Guderian dismissed in July 1941!

Post by colberki »

I am playing Road to Smolensk. I had not been keeping close tabs on the event log. At the beginning of T9, I deceided to survey the leaders in the panzer HQ to find some use for the 152 APs that I have. FYI Germans have just pocketed the Soviet defenders of Smolensk on T8.

Whoa, I finally noticed that Guderian was back in the leader pool with W54 D20 and Manstein was in is place in place in his 2PzGruppe role with W15 D3. Is this normal? Is Guderian's W:L record bad enough to justify dismissal?

For summer 41, that's a lot of losses. There's a big amount of randomness in this.

I suppose any leader will have trouble if he's overseeing lots of hasty attacks.

In the Road to Leningrad, Manstein and von Leeb are KIA by T9! [&:] But 56PzK are around the back of Leningrad's defenses and 41PZ are punching through almost to Shissliburg. Manstein was up close so understandable. Von Leeb?? His W:L was 85:14.

Any thought from the Matrix folks about manually controlling commander replacements versus a computer? I would find that much more agreeable than having to review commanders and undo a computer replacement.

I think this is impossible as leaders can be lost at times when the player would not be able to give input (during opponents turn), so we have to do it in an automatic way.

Is there a quick search to find those replace so that we may undo it?

Axis won minor victory but Model (Manstein's replacement) and another officer are also KIA. When I get to play my first GC, I will be concerned about protecting my Panzer leaders to survive until 1943. [X(]

Yes I find it really weird that so many leaders end up dead, especially if their HQs were miles from enemy combat units. I mean, how many Generals above army corps actually died in combat???? Also I could believe it if an HQs was attacked or displaced that a general is checked for survival, but if a guy is sitting comfortably in Minsk with a security regiment and HQ of 20000 personnel, miles behind the lines...

Dismissals seem to be arbitrary and appointments even more. I got this idiot Sodenstern who keeps cropping up every time someone gets dismissed until I parked him in one of the security commands in downtown Rowno...

I agree with the leaders KIA, it does seem a bit high considering we are talking of corps and higher commands. If we had Divisional leaders would be a different story. I know it has been said, it would be easier if we had a window when commanders change so we could decide on replacements. Also when you de-select a LCU the map centers itself to that unit. This re-centering throws my chain of thought off since the map moves as you de-select the LCU.

We had some stats on number of leaders killed during the war and it was quite high, although it may be that we'll need to do some tweaking on this. If someone wants to put together a list of corps and above leaders that were killed, I'd be very interested in seeing it.

Well I suspect some of those high death stats are from when their units were surrounded, like the fate of most AGC division commanders in Bagration.

For the  U.S. Army I think most of the division commanders survived until promoted or relieved.

Of course the game only handles corps and up, but you get my point.

I don't mind my generals in the rear getting killed but I also think that the death toll seems a bit high IMO. I've had 4 turns in a row where someone died on me as the Germans. Just a minor tweak is all I would ask for [;)]
