What special reports did you get?

Post by d0mbo »

A few turns ago, I got a pilot back that "reportedly escaped captivity"

In the Aar section, someone got a CV sunk because it ran aground (talk about bad luck!)

It's these small things to never cease to amaze! What rare things did happen to you?

  • Collisions in convoys.
  • Explosions while handling mines and other ordnance.
  • Hitting a "friendly" mine.

Wow, I never had anything happen. (I probably shouldn't have said that. I suspect something bad will happen to me next turn. [:(])

My opponent had a transport hit a reef and sink in the P.I. I've had a few "pilot previously presumed MIA has turned up" type reports.

The best report I ever received was in the summer of 1942 when one of my damaged xAKLs was limping towards Bombay and was sunk by the entire might of the KB. Immediately thereafter, I heard the dulcet tones of Tokyo Rose announcing that the "majestic forces of the Imperial Navy had sunk four aircraft carriers, a battleship, and two cruisers" (or something like that).

Note: This stuff mostly only shows up in the ops report, and is not in the playback.

Oh yeah, that'll happen. Then the game will turn into "I hope I kill something of Ted's this turn while he beats the hell out of me". [:D]

the standard line is "two carriers, a battleship and numerous cruisers and destroyers".....I just love getting this after the IJN triumphs over the PT boats in the Phillipines.

My best odd event so far is having the Lutzow show up at Ternate. It was listed as a Scharnhorst class CB and I attempted very lamely to bomb it with Hudsons and Do24ks with no success. It stayed for two days worth of futile bombing attempts before disappearing into the night.

I've seen enemy ships in TF's collide while trying to get underway.

I also get the "something is caught in the submarine net"  report at certain Australian ports from time to time.

There are several ships in my "Sunk" list that have "Unknown" for the reason they were lost.  I wonder about those...

If it's in northern Australia it's probably Mud crabs.......they're pretty big. [8|]

Mine (no pun intended) was the Minelayer that was lost to its own mines ..... I'm guessing the CO was so taken with his work that he was driving in a circle while continually looking thru the rearview mirror immensely proud of his work ........

I have never loaded the Iron Man scenario as the Japanese to see what they get.

As the opponent I have seen and sunk many, many ahistorical units. They get an additional Yamato class BB, many, many extra CVLs, CVEs, BBs, CAs, CLs, DDs and LSDs, but I am not willing to believe yet that they were given German ships as well.

I chalk the encounter up to misidentification by my bomber pilots. I have played an additional 20 turns since that discovery and the Lutzow has yet to reappear.

Don't know if this is "special", but I thought it was pretty funny.

I sent five midgets to San Diego. First three hit bottom, sub-net and a mine, but fourth made it through. Target it found was a Omaha class CL which appeared in cross-hairs and... "Midget sub has torpedo malfunction." - text under the picture of the target!!! [8|]

Sub was lost trying to get out of the harbor.
