Nice tool.  Indeed I have been thinking about the old discussion about "too much micromanagement/detail versus too little", the often appearing question whether there was just too much in WITP-AE.  I am convinced now that it is not the sheer amount of detail and information, and options we have in AE, that is causing this discussion.

In fact it is next to perfect to see even minor issues like ship collisions, harbor accidents, or all the little messages in naval or air combat, not to mention all the detail about unit properties, supply TOEs etc.  I find it is rather that only the way it is presented in the screens is quite overwhelming, and such nice tools like here that converted information in some graphic, easily understandable information do make management life a lot easier.

Also would be great in the future if a lot of details could be moved to submenu screens, like for example the screen that pop-up for managment of CAP/Rest/Training etc percentages of air units.  Similarly it would be nice if things like this, or the details like whether to use bombs, torpedoes, drop tanks, or which altitude to use etc. could be either left to AI selection, or alternatively set manually.  So the player basically has the choice to micromanage as he can presently now, or simply command "auto" missions (i.e. only set participating air groups and target or so), in which AI picks most typical parameters for the rest.  In short, make more use of automating typical routine stuff.  Then even the many details would be more manageable, and maybe people be a little less scared of the wealth of this game?

couldnt agree more. i remember playin witp when it was 1st released, way before any of these tools were available. it wasnt until these tools came online that i started playin the game as the base UI does a really poor job in supplying info in a helpful way.

theres so much goin on in this game with reagrds to info, i really dont get why these aids werent/arent in the base game.

you need to muck around with the batch file. Sometimes assigning too much memory causes a problem too ... we see this in Tracker as well. Assigning an initial heap memory space and then reducing the max might help...

Code: Select all

java -splash:UV1024.jpg -Xms384m -Xmx512m -jar combatReport.jar
 pause

I've got it running with ...

Code: Select all

java -splash:UV1024.jpg -Xms384m -Xmx1024m -jar combatReport.jar
 pause

Is this a new install or you have previous turns loaded ? I'm not sure where bret is keeping the data.

Try different memory settings and maybe a new install of this util ...

Very strange to have this during initialization... I guess it has worked in the past and you've got enough RAM.

So check what other programs you have running... close them down.
If all else fails maybe an uninstall and reinstall of Java ...

Alas, giving up on this one ... pity, looks like a damn handy tool .... Couldn't get it to run ... Interestingly, did check the running processes while it was "loading" over a 15 minute period and it was onlt getting 2% if the cpu .... the McAfee software was using ALL of the rest, which it has never done with other software .... Sorry to hear that ...
Ever disconnected from the net and disabled McAfee - to give it a try ?

Did you try the reinstall of Java ?

Anyway Brett says he will work on it some more soon - I'm surprised he never tried to give you some tech advice ...

I haven't yet tried Combat Reporter but I saw this suggestion and "Hell Yeah!" I kicked out McAfee years ago when it got to be like running while tied to an anchor. I use Nod32 from ESET now. I'm also advised that the free version of AVG (which includes auto updates) is quite good and used it on one PC with favorable results.

I use AVG, paid version, with no problems in AE or any of the utilities. Free version should be the same.

Weird.  Looks like a corrupted jar file or a serious version mismatch.

Can you open the command prompt and type "java -version" and post the results?
