Customer: “I’m having issues with my Outlook.”

Me: “Show me the problem you’re having so I can see if I can fix it for you.”

(She has six passwords each over twenty characters long, Bios password, Windows password, Zone Alarm Password, Outlook Password, etc…)

Me: “You don’t need to have your passwords that long for security’s sake.”

Customer: “I read on the internet that sniffers give up if the password is too long.”

Me: “I’m happy you did your research, but you don’t have to have it longer then 15 characters long.”

Customer: “Well I’m afraid if someone steals my laptop, the programs that can recover passwords can’t detect past twenty letters.”

Me: “That’s true, but no one really does that anymore. In this business we have customers coming in all the time to have us remove the password for them because they forgot it. For instance, I can get into your laptop in less then 2 – 3 minutes without your help.”

Customer: “No way. I’ve made precautions.”

Me: “I will be more then happy to show you that I can. But I would have to charge you a half hour fee and you would have to sign the work order giving me permission to.”

Customer: “And if you can’t? ”

Me: “Then I will be more then happy to refund you the money and you would have won this war.”

(Customer then pays the fee and signs the work order.)

Me: “Give me a moment.”

(A minute later.)

Me: “Here you go, I’m logged in to your Outlook.”

Customer: “Oh my God! How did you do that?”

Me: “If your really worried about someone stealing your laptop, you shouldn’t have laminated your passwords to the laptop.”

My boss was in a Christmassy mood this morning. She told us that we could leave (with pay) once we'd finished our tasking today; I've calculated that I can shave off an hour and a half!

"Heat wave" today. Currently only -12C (10F). Funny though, it's far worse down in the southern parts. There are quite a few towns there that have gotten new cold temperature records.

Bah! Amateur, a real employee would bugger off straight away on the basis that your boss wants to get away early so your slacking won't be noticed until the new year [:D]

Careful Nik... they've been arresting people in this state for that sort of thing... [:'(]

I know.....GF rescued the horse that played the mare-girlfriend to those pervs in the movie "Zoo" that documented those wonderful events up in Everett WA. Horse's name is "Babe"

Holy crap :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_(film)

My mistake.......her name is actually "Baby" not "Babe"

http://www.hopeforhorses.net/Baby_-_Main.html

fair warning...her rescue picture is not a pretty sight.

This reminds me of the Wikileaks situation. When they initially identified the source of the leaked cables as having come from the US military's super secret Internet, i remember thinking.....god, what god like hacking powers did someone employ to break into those supposedly super secure routers and servers.........

then they broke the story that the guy currently being charged with providing WL's with the data had simply logged onto a secure terminal, put in a DVD and copied the files, labeled it "Brittany Spears" or some other music band and walked out with it.

HI TECH!

In other thread news.....

GF came home last night with a 2 year old Doberman Pinscher.

[X(]

Thing is huge.....and stank to high hell (and sadly was painfully thin)

To complicate matters, his name is "Spike" Our yellow lab mix's name is "Spike" so now i get double the trouble when i call it out.

Guess who had to bathe it last night.........

Best part.....he's shy and very timid and fearful (so much for those Hollywood action films staring the breed) and the only way to keep him quiet last night was to let him sleep on our bed. GF had covers........Doberman had a nice snuggle nest of covers........

me.....no covers. cold night.

(oh but it'll only be a foster for a couple weeks i'm told!)

aieee.....

My holiday start at 1pm Friday. Today I've been told I have to be on call Tue and Wed next week when I'm supposed to be off. Of course I won't get those days back but I will get - gasp!- £30 a day to be on call. So I had to sell my days off for £30 each or be invited into the office on those days instead. [:@]

On the positive side, at least you're getting something for being on standby. Unlike your days with the Andrew where you'd probably be on standby for nothing...

I'm always on standby for nothing. Their argument is that I get paid every day.....

As I recall, quarter horses were bred to be docile and hard working, whilst Arabians were bred for war. High strung would be a good quality in a war horse, methinks.

I think Arabians are prettier. My daughter's first horse, Viena, was Arabian. Probably the calmest little horse you could want. A definite anomoly among horses. She hated other horses (with 2 exceptions) and loved people. I'd walk into her stall and she's come over, put her head on my shoulder and nuzzle me. I big dog really.

Did that thrice when I was a company commander (except that we had our normal field uniform on) [:'(]. As my unit was an "arctic" one, there was a tradition that last week before Christmas, before we sent the soldiers home, we sawed up a hole in the ice on a nearby lake and made the entire company bathe in it. Basically, you had to jump in, tread water for ~15 secs and then ask for permission to come up. I can assure you, that the hardest part were getting your tongue to work for the last part ...

Of course, the commander had to set an example and be the first one into the hole, so that none of those pimple-faced youths could refuse ... [:D]Image

Edited; Grammar. These foreign languages are hard.
