Sorry if I was harsh to you. I also at times had gripes about Matrix. But I also had a revelation some time ago about this company. They are here to serve and to provide us gamers with quality products. I regret any discomfort I may have caused you.

It's over. In the past hour I received e-mails from no less than 4 customer service people. One of those 4 actually figured out what I really needed and sent my original password to me. The sad thing is that the password is almost identical to the one I use now. I used to be dumb enough to use my age in my password. A couple of years ago I got smart and finally started using my birth year instead. Unfortunately, I had bought AT 3 years ago while I was still making the mistake of having a password that kept changing every year.

Anyway, it is over. I appreciate all the support as well as advice and even the criticism that I received

I agree that somethings regarding the site are convoluted. I never use ISP email accounts and therefore if and when I changed, it never affected me so I didn't quite understand your issue fully at first...although had you burned a disk, you wouldn't have been without your game - but then again, this issue might not have been highlighted [:'(]

So as it's explained how it is for you, then I understand. Your first post was rather hostile though. I understand that behind the scenes you were possibly worn out by the support system but coming on a forums boards where there is a deep respect by most others on those boards for the company who own them - it wasn't wise and was not really going to get you the best help.

Also - as a internet technology major (or computer science major? Are they not different or do you have both?) do you not think it could be rather unwise to not only use your email address as your login, but post it several times through the thread? I have no internet technology certificate (internet programming was something I made a concious decision to stay away from, wanting to concentrate on Windows applications) but I am a Software Engineer - and regardless of the threats out there, both known and unknown (where is Mr Rumsfeld when you need him), it's considered unwise to put your email on the public domain unless required to. This board does suffer from spam attacks from time to time, both bot and aparently human.

Anyway - have a good holiday and (I presume) enjoy Advanced Tactis again...though I would suggest Decisive Campaigns as a great new game, should you desire to treat yourself over the Holidays.

I never use my birthdate or my age in passwords.  I always use a significant year for me.  It could be any year, but it is something that is significant for me.

I fully understand why you were annoyed by my first post. Believe it or not, if you take a look at some of my old post from my original william64 ID you will see that I have also engaged in the defense of this company from those who would attack it.

Long story short, a lot of good came out of this simply because nothing gets your brain working more than trying to solve a problem.

To Judge and hgilmer3: I am including responses for you because I don't really like this thread title and I wiould like it fade into back pages where it now belongs.

Judge you are right about a lot of things. My judgement is suspect for someone who has spent so much time dealing with internet technology. I really should grow up and get a real e-mail address instead of letting my ISP take care of me like I am somebody's 75 year old grandmother that doesn't know any better. That is just laziness on my part and it needs to stop. As for this forum ID being my e-mail address, I guess that just lets everyone know how truly angry I was when I first stormed onto the site.

All I can say in my defense is that I had already written at least 6 letters to customer service before I got on this forum.

Last, but not least, hgilmer3 several of my teachers think my attitude towards passwords needs to mature. I have promised myself that before I graduate I will put more thought into my passwords.

All I can say is 6 letters to support (for any company) would probably push anyones buttons...Fortunately I have never had to deal with the Matrix helpdesk system. I don't know how it works or how efficient it is. I do know that Erik is on hand should I not get the desired help...

Even if Matrix had required 3 different e-mail addresses I still would have been dead because I would have just simply used my wsvbus@cox.net, wsvpat@cox.net and one of my many other cox.net e-mail addresses and when my ISP changed they would have been wsvbus@verizon.net, wsvpat@verizon.net and of course one of my other verizon.net addresses like my wsvgame@verizon.net address.

Bottom line, since all of the e-mails all would have had the same ISP till I changed to the other ISP, I still would have had the exact same problem.

Now isn't that funny?

Well, I couldn't log into this account anymore from one day to another and still don't know why. I assume that Gmx simply revoked it, because I always received my mails with Outlook / Thunderbird, and bypassed their ad-overloaded web-client. However, it's also possible that this account got hacked, what again could cause severe damage, as many services were tied to this address: Apple- and Adobe-ID, Visa, Paypal, Click&Buy, and all my gaming accounts.

Meanwhile I moved most of these to my personal domain and given my experience with Gmx won't ever use a freemail provider for financial transactions again.

Contact them, your assumption may be off. But you are right (IMO) to want control of anything financial, eliminating problems is always a good thing.
