Those Japanese ships were designed by great architect, Flank Royd Light.

Are you sure it wasn't Rennie Macintosh?

I am pretty sure Frank Lloyd Wright was not involved, but in the case of Krisihima you could say George Thurston had a role.

This looks to be the Japanese high water mark in the South Pacific.

Troops for Fiji are 2-3 d out. The 5 carriers are now united and refueled. Operable carrier-capable planes at Suva go back to the carriers (save for one SBD squadron which goes to Nadi to pick off cripples).

The B-26's and B-17's go back into Suva.

A second P-39 squadron is now augmenting CAP at Suva.

The carriers will move about 120 SE of Suva to pick off cripples and absorb a possible Betty strike without torpedos or escorts.

Kandavu will need to be cleaned up and the Jap troops on Fiji will need to be eliminated.

Then the carriers will have to go back to Wellington for R&R. Some carriers will be needed for the operation named after a small carnivore. Then it will be time to plan something along an offensive vein.

My Dearest Spri;

We were just wondering here about an estimated start date for Operation Meerkat...or was it "Mongoose". Will USN carreirs be required. There is also the small matter of one of those little Martlet squadrons. Staff is unsure but we think we may have accidentally left one on New Scotland. Have you any more? Or perhaps some Fulmars would do?

In view of the above expressed sentiments, I wonder whether the title of this thread which demands the heads of the capos of Diego Garcia and Addu is still appropriate. After all, even for our intrepid Polynesian seafarers, it is quite some distance to travel to DG and A to bring back those heads. Wouldn't a small bounty paid to the locals on Kandavu and Fiji for the capos of the local LYB commander be more appropriate (plus saving a fortune on freight costs). It would also afford the locals an opportunity to display their indigenous haka and honour their pre missionary culture.

My quasi-dearest Mady,

Many thanks for you latest missive. I believe the operation you refer to so absent-mindedly is the audacious "Weasel". The trrop are currently on their way to Perth (Australia, not Scotland) where they will be disembarked and trained for said operation. We estimate they will be ready to deal JJ a stunning blow in 5 weeks time.

In the meantime we offer our most heartfelt felicitations on your routing of the Japanese carriers off Fiji.

Yours

Admiral Lord SPrior VD, Scab, Scar and Bar

PS We'd like Fiji back when you've finished with the place so please don't cause too much damage.

Alfred, while it might be some distance indeed wouldn't you agree we should encourage ambition? What better means to do so than to demand the nigh-impossible and then watch the ingenuity of others ( whilst sipping martinis on a veranda ) as they strive to achieve these tasks --- and drown in their multitudes.

Kirishima and Kongo (and perhaps others) were designed and built in Britain (and later extensively modified). Thurston was the naval architect.

Hiryu shows up on the sunk list. This one seems likely.

She was reported as suffering an explosion of some kind.

I could probably read through the whole 100 page AAR, but I'm lazy so I'll just ask, anyone has an overview of remaining CV strength ?

Extant Allied carriers. Jap losses are about 4 posts up. The only one I am not certain about is Soryu. She might still live. Oddly, Shokaku is listed as sunk in the battle for New Scotland. Either that was Zuikaku or Zuikaku took the hits in this battle. It is very confusing. That a carrier sunk in the New Scotland battle is confirmed on the basis of airframe losses on the "ground". Two carriers damaged in this attack are clearly at risk.
