[:)] Nice picture. Now the question. Who is going to be a polar bear and jump naked into the river? [:D][:'(]

I'm betting that the river is a solid block of ice.

Going out for dinner with Mrs. Chickenboy. We just finished some Christmas shopping on the San Antonio riverwalk, had a nice leisurely lunch and a siesta too. Grandparents are keeping the kids for a couple days, so it will be a nice getaway...[8D]

The Riverwalk is nice. Does she know you call her "Mrs. Chickeboy"? [:D]

In other thread news.....

GF came home last night with a 2 year old Doberman Pinscher.

[X(]

Thing is huge.....and stank to high hell (and sadly was painfully thin)

To complicate matters, his name is "Spike" Our yellow lab mix's name is "Spike" so now i get double the trouble when i call it out.

Guess who had to bathe it last night.........

Best part.....he's shy and very timid and fearful (so much for those Hollywood action films staring the breed) and the only way to keep him quiet last night was to let him sleep on our bed. GF had covers........Doberman had a nice snuggle nest of covers........

me.....no covers. cold night.

(oh but it'll only be a foster for a couple weeks i'm told!)
aieee.....

Yeah, right......

My boss was in a Christmassy mood this morning. She told us that we could leave (with pay) once we'd finished our tasking today; I've calculated that I can shave off an hour and a half!

Hoping to get out of here a bit early today as well.

I'm hoping too, but my boss doesn't have a very good track record......

[:)] Nice picture. Now the question. Who is going to be a polar bear and jump naked into the river? [:D][:'(]

Did that thrice when I was a company commander (except that we had our normal field uniform on) [:'(]. As my unit was an "arctic" one, there was a tradition that last week before Christmas, before we sent the soldiers home, we sawed up a hole in the ice on a nearby lake and made the entire company bathe in it. Basically, you had to jump in, tread water for ~15 secs and then ask for permission to come up. I can assure you, that the hardest part were getting your tongue to work for the last part ...

Of course, the commander had to set an example and be the first one into the hole, so that none of those pimple-faced youths could refuse ... [:D]Image

Edited; Grammar. These foreign languages are hard.

[:D] That's great. When I was a battalion S-3 (operations officer) I was acting XO for our summer training. There was (and still is) a tradition that the first time a commander goes to annual training as commander, he gets thrown in the lake. Well that happened. Later he got even. He formed up the entire battalion (~450 soldiers) and marched them to the lake. Then he marched them in and put them in the front leaning rest position and proceeded to have them do some push-ups. [:D] Being the acting XO I wasn't in the formation and got to enjoy the event. [:D]

Edit: We were pretty far north and it was early summer. That lake was cold! [:D]

I know.....GF rescued the horse that played the mare-girlfriend to those pervs in the movie "Zoo" that documented those wonderful events up in Everett WA. Horse's name is "Babe"

Holy crap :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_(film)

My mistake.......her name is actually "Baby" not "Babe"

http://www.hopeforhorses.net/Baby_-_Main.html

fair warning...her rescue picture is not a pretty sight.

Good on you guys for taking her in. I know its a lot of work.

Nik, you are gonna have to stop this. People are gonna get the impression you are really a nice person, after all. Just fyi, here's a thing that my Vet back in Cali had on every wall. I think you'll get it.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Don't want to interject too much seriousity into this, but anyone involved in animal rescue has my most profound admiration and respect, and my undying gratitude, and Abby, the Hamster Dog, is sitting in my lap, trying to lick the screen, sayin " Yeah, Dad. You go, Boy!". Good on you Nik.

I'm not nice.....i read war books. Just last week a drunk girl started screaming at me across the bar.....something about being a Commie lovin war mongerer. (was reading Glantz's Stalingrad triology) I didn't even notice till the bartender told me the reason he had to 86 her was because she was yelling at me. (I recalled vaguely her going off about something but assumed it was a lover's spat.....the joy of impaired hearing in a noisy bar!)

Ah yes....Rainbow Bridge.....i became familiar with it when i had to put my dog of 13 years to sleep. She'd been with me from pre-High school graduation all the way to Seattle and getting old.

Tonight the Doberman's gonna lose the battle of the covers.

Is this what awaits GFU? [X(]

I have already made my peace with the idea of not seeing her from February to late April.
