TO: ADM. HASUMI NAGANO. IJN GENERAL STAFF CHIEF. IGHQ. TOKYO.
SUBJECT: MIDWAY
DATE: JUNE 29TH, 1942

A special secret mission have been ordered to I-122 docked at Truk Naval Base. She will transit to Midway Island and will collect as many reports as possible. H8K1 flying boats will fly recon mission over the island to complete any data about enemy defenses of the island.

In our last recon mission (may 1942) over the Island we spotted several submarines in this base. Could be possible that enemy have reseized the port of the base to improve like an advanced submarine base.

IJA Ground Units are ready to be shipped if needed for landings at this island with 100 prep points.

Battleships and Carriers from Combined Fleet (MOBILE FORCE & KIBO BUTAI) will be availabe if the surprise attack is proved by Supreme High Command.

It will be a great opportunity to engage any enemy carrier at battle after they get underway in our last raid against Southern Gilberts. USS HORNET was sunk at Santa Cruz with another carrier probably under heavy damaged or sunk after be torpedoed by one of our submarines.

CV HIYO will join with KIDO BUTAI when the ASW assets will assembly with her in the mother-port.
CV KAGA will be under urgent repairs before to be transfered to drydocks at Home.

General Quarters sounds the last night 03:00Z when 12 enemy heavy bombers were flown an strike mission over Munda. 18 Ki-45 KAI at night CAP intercepted them at 8,000 feet with no success. Several enemy four engine were damaged but they are so hard for your machineguns !.

Several strikes over Horn Island with Hudson and four engine bombers. Moderate damages on air facilities.

Due bad weather our missions over Ndeni and Arorae were cancelled.

REPORTED FROM 6TH FLEET CINC:

- RO-61 CO REPORTED SHE WAS DETECTED BY A CARRIER BASED AIRCRAFT NEAR EFATE !
- I-124 CO REPORTED ENEMY SBD-3 WAS SPOTTED NEAR ARORAE ISLAND

Probably enemy carriers at Southern Seas. Two days ago our G3M3 were intercepted over Arorae by F4F Wildcats, probably a LRCAP mission from enemy light or fleet carrier.

Great job fletcher, as always.

I have a question:( well..... i´ve a lot of.... but i don´t want to abuse your patience)[;)]
When you atack the bases of northern Oz: Do you only have your group leaders with high experience/ skill and the rest are rookies.... or attempt to fill all aircraft with experienced pilots?. I say this because there is not much opposition and it would be a good way to train pilots.

Also i´ve a request. [&o]
When you can....... Could you tell us how are your levels of resources / supplies, the production of aircraft / engine and your yards? I think you are doing very well and i can learn a lot..... I'm start diving into the "dark side" and i think it can be much more fun and interesting than the side of "light and democracy"[:D]

Thanks & greetings

Igel,

Don´t worry. it´s my pleasure. Take any question as you need if I can reply I will do it.
About Northern Oz supress air strikes, the skill of my pilots are as high as possible. I am trying to not fly war missions with rookies. They must be performing training at rear, when they get a decent skill then will be sent to their first line units. (If trained pilots from IJAAF at Harbin have skills over 55-60 then they will sent to General Reserve and then to first line unit when requested). Usually I have a "second line" unit for AirDivision to perform training duties for the less trained pilots in this division (i.e., 3rd Air Division HQ at Burma have a Daitai at rearguard -Bangkok- for training duties with the less experienced fighter pilots, flying Ki-27b)

You are right, I have no opposition over Northern OZ, but if one day appears americans over Katherine with experience pilots over P-40s ?.. I will lost a great number of pilots and machines. For the other hand training pilots in war missions is near a gamey tactic. In RL the training mission were flown at rearguard or home (I know this had not be possible at end of the war due heavy shortage of experienced pilots, but its not the question now at July 1942).
Also i´ve a request. [&o]

Ok, I will post screennies from my Res/supply, and production to know more about my logistic status in this stage of the war. Thank you very much for your kind words, like ever.

You will be ready to play the "dark side" when you will be able to resist the unresistable.. then you can take the japanese side and go ahead to the apocalipse :)

You´re wellcomed !, Thanks a lot, and Happy Christmas
With the Best wishes,
Ramón

Your aircraft production figures are HUGE, Fletcher. Can you post current air losses? I have hard time imagining how Japan might utilize 561 fighters and 447 medium bombers per month in the middle of 1942. At least without running out of training pilots. My own figures, by comparison, are 270 (+30 Rufes; will change to 330-340 in August of 1942 with the introduction of Tojo) and 224 in July of 1942, and I can live with that, despite rather heavy losses.

FatR,

Thank you very much for your question.
I have huge figures of airframe and engine production, really... but remember I can stop production whenever I want..and when the aircraft model will be updated to the next upgrade model then I will have a great rate of reemplacements for the first lane daitais. Like you can see in the screenies D3A1 have been stopped (with more than 130 AC on pools). I have restarted production of A6M2 and G4M1 few days ago when my pools down to low figures, but for weeks production of Ki-49, Ki-21IIa, G3M3, A6M2, Ki-43Ic were stopped.. when needed restarted with good daily production rates.
About pilots, until now I have no problems with reemplacements.

Best of wishes, and Happy Christmas.
Ramón
