Axis leader picture MOD

Post by roflbinflood »

Im sure we've all noticed that the game has a significant amount of leader pictures missing, so i decided to add the missing pieces, BUT ive ran into a major snag. Which is that i can't seem to find ANY pictures of some of the generals. So if anyone knows where i can find the rest of the german\italian leader pictures, that are not included in the package or is of better quality, please let me know and ill try to add em.

Oh and I tried to maintain the same "feel" that the existing pictures have, and if anyone knows the method\filters used to create the "original" pictures id be very grateful.[&o]

v.1.0 Added Historical Swastikas\SS banners to all the german leaders
v.1.1 10 Leader pictures added + changed some of the old ones to higher quality pics
v.1.2 "bullet holes" and outlines added

Download v.1.2 Here

Very good .......... but what about an unpolitically correct version with 'real' german flag as modded around here, too?

Now I wish they would move those "bullet holes" to outside the portrait.

Looks like they've applied 'Sepia' to me. Maybe some hue effects as well.

Here's you with Sepia applied...

Yeah i figured as much but i think there's some "edge thickening" filter being used aswell and some of the more intricate details on the faces are slightly smudged\flattened with something. [8|]

And about those "bullet holes".. i was gonna add em into my pictures but they were initially a pain in the buttocks so i "forgot" about em [:D]
Removing them from all the photos would be a huuge undertaking since you can't just create some "fix" layer and batch it on since every picture is a little different.

I found this site - no idea what the blogger is saying but the photos are there.

Can you explain how to link a leader to a photo or would you have to kill me?

It's Otto Kaempfe.. i couldn't find his picture. [:(] Btw. You can find out the names of those missing leaders with the editor.

Thanks for the link.. i'll see if i can add those in.

I use photoshop for editing the pictures.
I make them by first creating a layer with the flag on it, + another layer with the color\tones, or you could just use sepia from layer styles.

After those are done, save the template and youre ready to copy paste the picture in.. scale the picture and move it's layer below everything else.
Then you just save the file with the appropriate name and format. Sometimes if the picture is of poor quality, i might add some fx to strenghten the outlines.

It's actually quite easy once you get the hang of it.

I looked in the editor under the leaders section but could not find any mention of Helmut Forster who is leader of I Fliegerkorps. I was going to try my hand at putting a photo in from the website I found but was not able to as he ain't there.
Any suggestions where he may be?

Did some research on the net and couldn’t find any reference at all to Otto Kaempfe.
But did find lots about Rudolf Kaempfe. Who is not listed in the game?

Is this an error here? Should it be Rudolf not Otto? Can we verify this with designer?

ImageYou sure its not Helmuth Forster?
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

Exact, is this an error. 091 - "Otto" Kaempfe ----> must be "Rudolf" Kaempfe.

But also there are enough spelling errors in the german generals. In addition, the aristocratic titles (Freiherr, Graf, Ritter, etc) can be replaced with the "von" (or they can be added to the "von").

004 - Maximilian Angelis ----> must be Maximilian "de" Angelis
019 - "Albert" Bulowius ----> must be "Alfred" Bulowius
020 - Rudolf Bunau ----> must be Rudolf "von" Bunau
024 - Kurt Chevallerie ----> must be Kurt "von der" Chevallerie
037 - "Freiherr" Falkenstein ----> must be "Hans von" Falkenstein (or Hans Freiherr von Falkenstein) Ouch!!! In reality "Sigismund von" Falkenstein, from the Luftwaffe
101 - "Matthais" Kleinheisterkamp ----> must be "Matthias" Kleinheisterkamp
154 - Wolfram Richthofen ----> must be Wolfram "von" Richthofen (or Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen)
172 - Fridolin Senger und Etterlin ----> must be Fridolin "von" Senger und Etterlin
196 - "Graf" von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt ----> must be "Walter" von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt (or Walter Graf von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt)
209 - Smilo "Baron" von Luttwitz ----> must be Smilo von Luttwitz (or Smilo Freiherr von Luttwitz, Baron in german is Freiherr)
214 - Hans von "Obstfelber" ----> must be Hans von "Obstfelder"
226 - "Walter" von Seydlitz-"Kurzback" ----> must be "Walther" von Seydlitz-"Kurzbach"
228 - Graf von Sponeck ----> must be "Hans" von Sponeck (or Hans Graf von Sponeck)
257 - "Helmut" Forster ----> must be"Helmuth" Forster
266 - Otto "Sponheim" ----> must be Otto "Sponheimer"

On the other hand, where it is the General der Artillerie "Horst von Mellenthin" that was a commander of Armeekorps and Panzerkorps in the East in 1944-45?

Sorry - I missed your reply.

Just use "Soften portrait" under the Effects/Photo menu in paint.net (free download and use) to get the blur effect.
