Aye, he's been a good lad, although it has to be said that at his age he doesn't know the difference between good and bad. The worst we can say is that he's got a set of pokey prodding fingers that seem to be eye-seeking [:D]

A True Born Englishman (Exerpt)
Satire, be kind, and draw a silent veil
Thy native England's vices to conceal;
Or, if that task's impossible to do,
At least be just, and show her virtues too—
Too great the first; alas, the last too few!
England, unknown as yet, unpeopled lay;
Happy had she remained so to this day,
And not to every nation been a prey.
Her open harbours and her fertile plains
(The merchant's glory those, and these the swain's)
To every barbarous nation have betrayed her,
Who conquer her as oft as they invade her;
So beauty's guarded but by innocence,
That ruins her, which should be her defence.
Ingratitude, a devil of black renown,
Possessed her very early for his own.
An ugly, surly, sullen, selfish spirit,
Who Satan's worst perfections does inherit;
Second to him in malice and in force,
All devil without, and all within him worse. .
He made her first-born race to be so rude,
And suffered her so oft to be subdued;
By several crowds of wandering thieves o'errun,
Often unpeopled, and as oft undone;
While every nation that her powers reduced
Their languages and manners introduced.
From whose mixed relics our compounded breed
By spurious generation does succeed,
Making a race uncertain and uneven,
Derived from all the nations under Heaven.
The Romans first with Julius Cæsar came,
Including all the nations of that name,
Gauls, Greeks, and Lombards, and, by computation,
Auxiliaries or slaves of every nation.
With Hengist, Saxons; Danes with Sueno came,
In search of plunder, not in search of fame.
Scots, Picts, and Irish from the Hibernian shore,
And conquering William brought the Normans o'er.
All these their barbarous offspring left behind,
The dregs of armies, they of all mankind;
Blended with Britons, who before were here,
Of whom the Welsh ha' blessed the character.
From this amphibious ill-born mob began
That vain ill-natured thing, an Englishman.
The customs, surnames, languages, and manners
Of all these nations are their own explainers:
Whose relics are so lasting and so strong,
They ha' left a shibboleth upon our tongue,
By which with easy search you may distinguish
Your Roman-Saxon-Danish-Norman English.

Not all places in Denmark are blessed with fine weather this Christmas eve. See if you can guess what this is (no peeking at the file name):

The picture is from the Baltic island of Bornholm, at the opposite end of the country from me. They've got a bit of powder there...

The scary thing is that this is hardly the first time something like this has happened. This is probably at least the 6th incident down the years, and each time all i was doing was sitting reading a history book. The bartenders at my regular got used to joking about how much of a "troublemaker" I was. My favorite incident remains the a-hole who came down, saw me reading, stepped in front of me and gave me a Nazi salute and a rousing "ZEIG HEIL!"
Usually i don't get annoyed...but that time something snapped. I later walked up to him, bent down to his ear and said...."By the way.....Hitler's dead."
He was so pissed off that he ran up behind me as i returned to my seat and started going off about how i was probably a rabid Iraqi war supporter.
2nd favorite incident was a drunk guy who noticed me reading a 'war book' and started quizzing me, only to keep going off about those "Baztards in Olympia" (aka....our legislative body that governs our fine state)
He got 86'd within 20 minutes of rambing at me, and the bar in general.
All i was doing was sitting there reading a book.....honest.
hmmm.... maybe he's the guy who jumped on my case when I was reading Fire in the Sky while eating lunch at a restaurant downtown. Let's just say that there are a lot of people around here who don't think like we do.
Maybe people in Memphis just don't care, or we are all " warmongers " here, or maybe just polite. But I have never had a person say anything negative to me about any of the multitude of Miliary History books I have read while eating or sipping alone in bars, diners , resturants, etc. On the contrary. Many years ago I was reading a book about the Korean War and a vet from that era came up and asked me about it. Also I was reading a book about the Normandy Invasion once and a guy about my age asked if it was any good. I think I would be a bit impatient if any knucklehead said something bad along those lines. So I hope it never does.
I'm in the same boat, Stu. No negative experiences for me so far, but I question my ability to handle it well if a stranger were to criticize my wargaming and war history interests. [8|]

My most embarrassing reading moment was on the London Underground after a long few hours drinking on the train down from Glasgow.
How so ? Did someone come up to you and say something on the train ?
I was with a mate and we'd stopped off at Baker Street station where there's a news agent. I'd bought an, er, grown up magazine. My mate said, "You're dunk"
"How do you know?" I replied.
"It's upside down"
"You're dunk" [:D]
