Supply tracing

Post by gingerbread »

Somehow the MP distance used to trace the supply path in phase 1 was only 17 MP. Phase 2 was 28 MP, and that is the distance to Minsk.
Hex distance to rail marked red, shortest MP path (where different) marked black.

One 17 MP route that disregards hex ownership and that could save 1 MP as well (two lt woods instead of swamp) in marked in yellow, but it should not be legal. What gives?

Edit: It is 17 MP by Non-motorized move cost if the route marked red is used, is that it?

The difference between P1 and P2 is that P1 goes before hex ownership change. Supplies also can't be traced through the hexes pending the change of ownership (yellow path). Hexes with pending change of ownership do not extend their ZOC, so therefore MP cost traveling the narrow corridor increased a lot in P2.

I don't understand what is ment by "Hexes with pending change of ownership do not extend their ZOC..." - is it that units in such hexes does not have a ZOC during P1 trace segment?

Also, the manual has this in 4.2. LOGISTICS PHASE DETAILS:

------------
»» First supply delivery sub-segment (from HQ units) (20.4.2)
»» Automatic Rail Repair Unit movement sub-segment (14.2.1.1)
»» Emergency Rail Repair sub-segment (14.2.1.1)
»» Second supply delivery sub-segment (from Railheads) (20.4.2)
--------

There is no mentioning of when exactly hexes change from "pending friendly" to "friendly" unless this is understood to occur during: Take Control of Isolated Hexes segment, but that is listed to happen before the supply segment.

To get back to my example above, I can find no path that would add up to 17 MP, using Motorized costs.
So, all in good faith I ask you to please, please check that routines used in the two trace subsegments uses the same cost table.

If you can attach/send the save prior the logistic phase I can provide all the details.

Unfortunately the Autosave has been overwritten. This is turn 1 for Soviet player, so I have no other. Will try to create same/similar situation again, but it might take a while since there is some randomness.

But I really want to know, so thanks for your offer! I'll keep generating.

Got one! There is a slight difference in that the panzers have not placed the rail westwards from Minsk in ZOC, so the railhead closest to 3rd Army is 64,59 with the town Stolbtsy. But there is the fact that the P1 path is shorter than the P2, and the P1 corresponds to Non-motorized costs.
