Help with Air Drops please

Post by Redmarkus5 »

Hi,

I can't figure out how to air drop units. I have Soviet Paratroop brigades sitting in the same hex as an airbase with 16 Li-2 Transports with a load bearing of +5k but when I select the Air Transport option and click on a target hex nothing happens. I have tried every mouse click technique I can think of...

Shift click on the hex with airbase and unit. This should should show unit lifting dialog. Choose air groups and right click on the hex to drop the unit.

Thanks - will try that again. Where is this in the manual? I re-read the air drop section several times but missed the shift-click bit.

I have tried everything - no joy and no air drops.

How hard does it need to be? This is how I think it should work:

1. Select a valid paratroop unit.

2. If there are valid transports units within 5 hexes (i.e. a truck ride away on a weekly turn basis) the para unit gets a blue outline and the transport units come up in a list. You select a transport unit (or click cancel to make a normal move) and right-click on the destination hex.

3. If there are no valid transport units the para unit is outlined in red. You can then move it like any other combat unit.

Please send a save to 2by3@2by3games.com and tell me what hex the para is in that should be able to airdrop. Does the unit have an average experience of at least 40?

Success!!! Thanks for the help, Joel.

Things I was doing wrong - it's a long list:
1. Air doctrine required to fly threshold was set higher than the % of transports available. (If you adjust your doctrine to address this, remember to set it back after or you'll be sorry!)
2. I was going F9 first and THEN selecting the originating hex, instead of doing F1 > select hex > F9
3. I was doing a shift plus RIGHT click in the target hex instead of a SHIFT+LEFT-click (even though I didn’t actually have the selection set properly anyway)
4. Even when I got all of that figured, I wasn’t observing the sorties required vs. sorties available text at the bottom of the air unit selection pop-up. I had insufficient sorties available in many cases.

Anyway, I got it to work now. See Page 73 of the Ebook and follow every single step with care...
