It works like that (again I'm not an expert on translating c++ code to human language):

The base values described in manual are correct, with one addition - there is no explicit MP reduction for the Soviet motorize Divisions in the code which sets base values. I.e. If you make OB which would be valid in 1942, these unit can have 50MP. Also reduction to 18 for the Soviet Divisions (prior 10/1941) happens after all modifications.

Non-Motorized Combat units (except Cavalry) units - 16 MP
Cavalry Combat units - 22 MP
Headquarters units - 50 MP
Rail Repair units (FBD and NKPS) - 16 MP
Axis Motorized Combat units - 50 MP
All Soviet Motorized Combat units 1941 - 25 MP (18 for Divisions prior to October 1941)
Soviet Motorized Combat Brigades 1942-1943 - 30 MP
Soviet Motorized Combat Brigades 1944 - 35 MP
Soviet Motorized Combat Corps - 50 MP

Then all base values pass usual modifiers - admin, initiative, etc. The minimal value for motorized units can be 8.

If modified value is 12 or more it would be halved prior 25-June-2941 for the Soviet player, regardless of movement type.

In other words, you can read them as /2 and /3 if all modifiers are positive. But for sure there is no (automatic) reduction of modified MP.

@Pieter, don't think I knew it and just was lazy to provide it. We see it from absolutely different perspectives, so some of the concerns doesn't look obvious for me.

OK, thanks for clearing that up.

Might I suggest that an errata is issued with the final 1.02 patch that describes the actual implementation.

I realize from your comment above that you are not involved in work with the manual, so maybe you could forward this suggestion to those that are.

Watching Pavel and Peiter go at it is always worth the price of admission. [:D]

Pieter reported it in the appropriate thread on dev forum.

I do in way to provide info when asked, but don't have time to read it. [:(]

You may call it sports. :)

The problem is usually that Pavel knows how something is supposed to work, whilst I only have the manual to go by, which is in this case at best unclear and at worst incorrect.

I'm still very interested to see how supply tracing really works, have you read that thread, Pieter?

So the game using a setting that isn't achievable, by any means, for a certain type of unit is perfectly WAD? That would certainly need to be clarified in the manual, as currently it's not working as described.

It's pretty simple:

Can Soviet combat divisions have 50 MP's? Answer: no, never.
What is the theoretical maximum for a division? Answer: 18 MP's or, if it sticks around for a long time, 25 (I don't think that's possible even for Tank divisions, though).

Is it logical that 50 MP's are used, a value which a Soviet division can never reach: no, not really.

I didn't notice this before as I somehow thought both motorized MP's and non-motorized MP's were divided by 2.

The highest MP I have seen far for a combat unit is 30 for a tank brigade. I have several more tank brigades with 29 MP and a large number with >24, including some cavalry divisions.

I haven't yet combined any tank brigades to form larger formations.

35's the highest you should ever see for Soviet motorized brigade sized units, in 1944, prior to that the maximum MP's are lower.
