Andy v Brady - this may be a bit nuts

Post by Andy Mac »

OK Brady has agreed to play Japan in a weird and wonderfull ahistorically nuts scenario

Basically I took the Japanese Ironman and bits of the Allied Ironman and merged them.....

Its de facto all of the Japanese Ironman and about 40% of the Allied at present.

So this one is Ironman v Ironman and Brady has agreed to play Japan to help me test it.

I am treating this as a real game so we shall see what we shall see.

Obviously I am facing the kind of juggernaught few allied players have faced however I have a few ezxtra toys of my own to try and slow down the Japanese until I can turn the tide !!!

In terms of toys of my own in general most of the allied changes occur in mid and late war but there are a few nice ones in the early going.

In general the allies have a few more Bde sized units on map at start

A couple in Malaya a few of the PI Divs are less disabled, A few in Java a few in India nothing to disruptive on the ground in general the allies are a little bit stronger.

At sea

The Dutch get one extra CL (Soerbaja) and 6 extra short range destroyers of the Admiralen III class
The Royal Navy gets a single extra Destroyer and 6 Fleet Submarines (arriving at Aden)
The RAN and RNZN each get a flotilla of 8 V Class Destroyers (old not great range but hey 16 Destroyers gives them a punch)
The allies also get one additional capital ship HMS New Zealand a Battlecruiser operating in the south pacific.

There are the usual Ironman nasty AMC Q ships as well.

In the air not much has changed the allies are a little better prepared and a little more and earlier replacements - again the big changes come mid war

I think I understand what military fame is; to be killed on the field of battle and have your name misspelled in the newspapers.

RE: Andy v Brady - this may be a bit nuts

Post by Andy Mac »

Force Z hit Miri and did ok and more importantly got away.

Jap CV TF's are everywhere. KB is heading SW from Pearl

A strong CV TF is operating north of PI and another is moving through Celebes.

A 4th is operating off of New Guinea.

Lots of Carriers - still no idea what Brady is up to

OK Brady hit me hard in the DEI and is driving on Ambobn on day 4

Finally a Div level landing at Southern Luzon.

Looks like a North Australia/Darwin thrust.

Minor issue with the scen that I will need to look at is there are so many Jpanese carrier assets floating about that its almost impossible to use surface TF's except as one shot wonders.

I will need to think about a few minor tweaks to accomodate that and put at least a little balance back in.

OK lots of effort going into souther Celebes and heavy strikes along North Borneo

Huge envelopment under way.

Not much in the way of air assets to fight back with at present but more are coming every day so we shall see what we shall see...

Japanese landings at Tulagi and nothing at Wake yet

Brady has bypassed Rabaul and went straight to New Cal looks like its a NZ/Fiji variant he is going for.

Ltd effort in Malaya and PI I guess he figures he can take it anytime.

New Zealand led TF's have raided several places but always a day to late I got hot by carrier air last turn and my TF's are low on fuel - the V Class DD's dont really have the endurance for SWPAC

DEI same story an impressive surface fleet has missed several enemy TFs
