Only reason I dont disband them is they do look like real units if the recon isn't good, and there is no guarantee that it is in a human game. Besides, any speed bump looks good at the moment:-)

Situation Report 7/10/41

Losses Germans Russians

Men 76787 846221
Guns 761 11656
AFV 425 5846
Air 522 4930

Northern Front
Finland attacked this week and have made small penetrations in my lines. I plan to fall back to the no cross line now and concentrate on the Germans approaching from the west. The Baltic states are all gone.
Spotted a panzer unit across the Narva, which is ominous as my troops are still thin in the area

Central Front Report:

Vitebsk has not fallen but german spearheads have passed by to the south as there isn't much behind them to the north. My forces are holding the Dnepr so far and I will fight for the river line to delay for another week. Mogilev is also holding but i will abandon it this turn. I have Vatutin and the 20th Army defending the Smolensk area and forces coming from the moscow area to back them up. Hoping to delay delay delay[:D] I expect him to cross the Dnepr south of Smolensk as my forces are spear thinner there. It all depends on where he wants to go.

Southern Front report:

This is where the blood is really flowing. Lost alot of troops that turn and will lose three more pockets this turn. Good news is i got supplies in to some and they fought that turn, which delayed my opponent for a week. I have a good line forming near Kiev and I hope to be dug in when he gets there. Odessa front is digging in as well but I will fall back rather than be surrounded there.

Latest news from Northern Army Group has Finnish forces breaking thru our lines at multiple points and our forces slowly falling back towards the south. General Meretskov's forces have scored 10 victories vs only 3 defeats so his troops are fighting very well indeed.

South of Leningrad there are reports of German troops across the Narva river. This is most distressing as the retreating troops have reported numerous tanks among the attacking troops. 27th Army (Gen Berzarin) has 5 inf divs to contain the Germans and 28th Army will become active this turn and rushed to the front with at least 6 divisions to help fight the Germans to a standstill. 30th Army (Rokossovsky) 4 inf, 2 Cav Divs 28th Army (Malinovsky)6 Divs, 3 Brigs and 27th Army (Berzarin) 9 inf Divs and 1 Mot Div are whats available. Everthing else is either forming or refitting.

In the Smolensk area he didn't press as far as I thought he would. Shown in the screen is my deployment after most of my moves. I did adjust a little near Mogilev after the screen shot but most is what you see. Some of the Divisions are unready but it can't be helped. Hope someone is reading this[:D] If not at least I can practice my screen shot drawing skills.

As you can see I am forming armies and trying to put decent commanders in charge. A bunch of my corps just vanished last turn so all of a sudden I am short HQ's[&o] Go figure!

Image go figure.

You've certainly got some trouble on your hands.  That concentration of 5 panzer and 3 motor divs near Smolensk will be trouble.

I see you are trying the checkerboard deployment; for that terrain it may not be the best, as it's left some rifle divs trying to dig in out in the open instead of light woods.

South of the swamp I am in a running battle with the Germans, 3 pocket that all will maintain supply for another turn although they may die fighting. It has delayed him and although my losses were high i have had time to dig in at Kiev and the river line is shoring up well. Have some armored divisions that have some punch so I hope to fight him hard there. Army Strengths are as follows:

10th (Golubav) 1 Tank, 1 Mot, 6 Inf, 1 AT Brig Defending Zhitomir area.
26th (Kostenko) 2 Tank, 1 Mot, 3 Inf, 1 AT Art Brig. Defending Kiev
12th (Ponedelin) 2 Tank, 1 Mot, 1 AT Art Brig. North and south of Kiev
21st (Efremov) 3 Tank, 1 Mot, 3 Inf, 1 Cav. River North of Kiev
19th (Boldin) 4 Inf, 34 Rifle Corps (3 Inf Div)River south to north of Cherkassy
6th (Muzychenko) 3 inf. Cherkassy
35th Rifle Corps (Dashichev)2 inf Screen Cherkassy
18th (Smirnov) 3 inf, 1 NKDV Reg. Screen Kirovograd

Hi Randal, it is true i would rather be in woods, but you have to fight where the fight is sometimes. I do have some depth and stacks so I am hoping they will hold up. Vatutin's men are fresh and should put up a good fight which is the best I can hope for. My opponent doesn't seem to be the real aggressive type so i don't think he will try to bite off to much, I hope [8|].

Sometimes a Soviet tank division is just a tank in name, and closer to a cav division in power; some of them have only about 50-60 tanks to begin with, mostly T-26 or BT.  Cannon fodder for two panzer divisions.

The Soviets do a lot reorganizing in 1941; those Corps HQs are disbanded automatically for you, then some Army HQs spring up, again automatically.

Turn 6 is in and my moves are complete. Here are the series of screen shots. Losses are not to bad considering. I have avoided any major encirclements so far and he did not advance significantly against Leningrad that turn, probably due to low supply.

He encircled several divisions west of Kiev but the swamp was not covered so I managed to scamper units into it, they may survive if I am lucky. I am digging in at Kiev and along the Dnepr but I have no depth as I sent alot of my reserves to Leningrad. We will see how it works out.

My air loses are actually not bad at all because i withdrew anything he could hit after turn 1.

Here are the loses
