There may not be much good reason to have your HQs right at the front; you can keep them up to 5 hexes back and they should provide the same leadership.

Tophat, how did you attack Lehr? It would seem that, for example, those 3-15 or 3-16 Rifle divisions should have more than enough MP's to move into a single enemy ZOC hex after Lehr vacated it.

I hit Lehr with infantry that was adjacent, first attacks failed. I pulled those 2 infantry divs out, plugged in 2 fresh Infantry Div and sent him retreating. I moved an armored corps in(2 armor divs and a mobile dive)they didn't have enough movement to attack. So didin't widen the salient or have room to put in another div to complete the isolation move.

Still trying to buy as much time as possible,I have divisions forming and moving west but seems i will need most of them in the north.

I isolated 3 panzer divisions,1 motorized division and the Slovakian brigade/dividion.so not bad.

Romanian armored division held vs my attack so limited joy there. I did force 1 Romanian infantry division to retreat but failed in other attacks to isolate more Axis forces.

My attacks cost me heavy losses, but if i buy another turn or 2 I more than break even. At least that is the plan.

Somewhat surprised given how aggressive my opponent is that a major run on Leningrad wasn't made. Now to build forts and more forts here.

Well here we are then. He relieved his isolated divisions and is committed to the south of Pskov sweepto the northeast.

Somewhat quiet in the Vitebsk area, given that north and south of Vitebsk things seem to be going to hell. I'll save more drama for my south of Smolensk screen shot.

Well my failure to isolate his panzers across "BIG RIVER"(yea,I forgot the name)has cost me. I see 1 lone pzDiv he has out there I can isolate. Comments?

Glad this nasty geographic barrier is here at the moment, keeps my southern forces from being enveloped from the north.

Well, yes I wasn't understating it.things went to hell alright. I defended too far forward and was caught, now its pull back what i can and construct a line time. In the south I can trade land for time and that is now what i need to do.

Hey the Germans did make it into Rostov in 41'......

Thanks, just looked at the map as I make new screen shots and saw that. But "Big River" has such panache.

Any tactical advice to go along with the geography lesson randallw?
