T65 and the struggle to seal the pocket continues. The AI is fighting for every inch of ground. I can only hope that I am bleeding him sufficiently.

I have taken a (you guessed it) undefended Gomel, but the unit that achieved this was cut off from the main body. Not sure it can hold...

Finally the enemy's line begins to crumble and I pocket 14 infantry and 1 motorised division.

However, it is not the complete annihilation of the central front that I planned for.

Perhaps not quite the pocket I had imagined, but still a bloody disaster for the AI...

This morning I was woken at 0400 by my sentries and ordered to the Kremlin on a special flight. Comrade Stalin personally warned me that a failure to take Gomel before the season of mud would be punished by an execution at dawn.

I have given orders that one Regimental Commander in ten be put on similar notice, with their shootings to follow mine within 1 hour.

The good news is that Gomel appears to be undefended!

Turn 68.

The AI has finally decided to avoid any further pocketing and has pulled back to straighten his line.

It is 01 Oct '42 and the mud is approaching. I will march to the line of the Dnepr, taking Gomel along the way, and rest and refit along the length of the whole front.

Operations will resume mid-winter with the target being AG South.

I am wondering how the AI managed to move some of these units out of danger, given that they had MPs of 4 or less and were sitting in my ZoCs...?

You have lots of dudes and mg's sitting in those fort units created in '41; why not disband them, get them back into the pool?

Nice offensive. :)

Morale affects ZOC movement penalty; perhaps those German units still have good morale.

You've lost 20k planes; that's a lot of scrap metal.

I've been trying to do that but it seems that there is no disband option for forts...

Ooops - now I see I CAN disband them. I must have been tired when I tried to do it before.

Anyway, with half my army now on Refit, this should be the perfect time to add all those men and equipment to the pool!

Yes - I need to keep them within their HQ ranges and I generally put them on a rail line assuming that this gives the maximum supply benefit. So clumping them together seems to be the most logical approach. It also makes it easier to click through them when checking AC status and doing upgrades.

If they have good morale at this stage, I'll be amazed :)

The 20k planes is a lot, but the enemy can't afford the 6k modern AC he has lost and mine were mainly older models.

5k of my losses were in the first couple of turns, so the actual ratio of true combat losses is only about 2:1 which is pretty good in my opinion.

Or maybe not...

Here's what I saw last night. I can't disband some forts, even though they are miles from the front and reasonably close to their HQ...
