RE: 9/4/1941
Are you patched to 1.02 Beta?
I had the same problem in the south (no soviet defenders) at about this stage when playing with version 1.00 but it was resolved with 1.01 and may have been further tweaked.
However, I gave up on my Axis GC and switched to playing as the Soviets, so I haven't tested the fix fully.

Speedy, the overrunning of air bases like you did has a good chance of happening to a human player too, as the air bases need to be fairly close to the front to support the troops. However, the AI has a tendency to concentrate air bases in a small area (you would've loved some of the 15x15 hex air parks the AI made during testing).
Another argument for more abstraction of the air component of the game?
In reality, while air bases can obviously fall with all of their logistics being captured, it should be very rare for serviceable planes and pilots to be captured on the ground.
Does the game need a change so that when an air base falls a dice is rolled to see that % of AC fly out to the Pool? This should normally be 80-100% IMO.

That's why that doesn't happen. Undamaged planes fly away before the air base is overrun and will automatically relocate to the new position of the air base after it's displaced.

Nope. I'm on 1.01 Beta for now.

The danger to 'ready' aircraft by enemy ground forces can go either way; sometimes a base will know it's under threat, other times they can be surprised.

AGC Centre - Strong Soviet forces along the Moskva force XXXIX Pz Cps eastwards along the river. An encirclement of 10 Soviet divisions is almost achieved in conjunction with XXXXVI/XXXXVII Pz Cps which storm through Kaluga.

AGC South - XXIV Pz Cps cross the Oka and partially surround Orel.
Further south limited Soviet resistance allows the Infantry to advance towards the Svapa NW of Kursk.

Getting temptingly close to the big prize.

Are those refitters sitting in the backfield there (3 light blue IDs)?

Just got caught up on your AAR. Very good progress for you! I cant believe how many units you have destroyed by this point!
You only have a few (5?) more turns left before the mud hits. Are you going to dig in before that? Are you going to try and push for Moscow? 1st winter is looming. Good luck!

RE: 9/4/1941
randall - indeed. I am tempted to go for it but part of me is also tempted to straighten the lines and prepare for winter....
Mynok - No. They're moving back to the front as they were assigned by me to move through the Pripyat Marshes to clear opposition there. With that task done they're heading back to 2nd Pz Grp AOC.
Chad - Thanks. My main aim has been to eliminate as many Soviet units as possible. I doubt it will affect the Soviets capability for a Winter Attack but it can't hurt. I'm un-decided about whether to push on or halt. The Soviets have stationed what strong units they have near Moscow but (I feel) they are weak everywhere else (maybe due to me wiping out so many units).
------------------------------
AGS - The Soviets seems pretty weak down here and my men have reported moving forward at will.....like a hot knife through butter.
14th Pz Cps is heading towards Sumy.
48th Pz Cps is outflanking Poltava as Infantry support holds the Soviets in place.
Further south 3rd Pz Cps advances SE attempting to create multiple pockets from Odessa, Krivoi Rog and Kirovograd with infantry support from the west as the Axis Allies hold the Soviets in place.

RE: 9/4/1941
Some of those rail repair units are really straggling. Are they just cleaning up random hexes?
RE: 9/4/1941
I tried moving up AGS to try and get its attached const bn to help out the FBD. How are your supplies doing? You are long ways from the railhead. Have you got one coming out of Rumania that is closer?
There's nothing defendable east of the Dnepr until you reach the Don. You might not get a massive attack down here, I don't know.

RE: 9/4/1941
Randall - Yes. They're the auto controlled RR units cleaning up hexes off the 'main drive Railroad'
Mynok - I have 2 RR units advancing forward. I'll post a screenshot later on showing the rail status.
As for the Don. I agree but with bad weather coming soon I'll need to break and prepare for winter as much as I can.
Losses......33 Soviet Units destroyed

RE: 9/4/1941
What exactly will you do to prepare for winter? Just stop in place to start digging fortifications? Build fortified regions?

Hi Grotius,
It's a tricky one. I haven't tried the mass Fortified Regions approach. I'm not sure it would help a lot though. My aim is to be in my positions by the start of Mud and quite simply dig like no tomorrow. I will try to house troops in as many towns/cities that I can and have the Panzers in the rear. This is the plan anyhow........
AGN North - The infantry mainly slogged forward 10 miles across the front except XXXVIII Corps which advanced 20 miles north of Novgorod.
If I can advance to the Volkhov by Mud I'll be happy enough.

Ah yes, I forgot about quartering in towns/cities. That helps with mud as well as snow?
Great AAR, btw!

Mud shouldn't disable a lot of men.

Hi all,
Thanks Grotius!
AGN South - Mainly local actions by the Panzers as this is the rough line I want to hold come Blizzard. You can see II and X Corps troops moving up from the SW which will occupy the front lines along with with troops currently west if Novgorod. I can hopefully have the Panzers in the rear.
Talking of Panzers XL Pz Cps has just arrived in Germany. I'm actually tempted to leave these in Germany until Spring 1942 to protect them from the Blizzard. I can't think of any reason to move them for use in Russia. Thoughts?

Thanks Grotius!
