I don't mean to create work for your volunteer efforts, but another player was asking about it, so I thought I would mention it again to bring to other players attention.

Here is the last link that was posted for Yearworld's tutorial. I don't know if it is still functioning.
ORIGINAL: Yearworld

Here is a link to the start of the Basic Tutorial for new players which shows them how to play the game(no strategies). I have only done Setup so far(which took way longer than I thought). Let me know what you think. Critical comments are fine.

Hi all,

I am trying to work on a new better tutorial that is simple for starting players. This one was way too detailed. I hope to have it finished soon but cannot make a promise on the time as I am playing 9 games and am busy with regular life. Hopefully will have it for everyone soon.

Just grabbed the game, and I'm a clueless wonder - haven't any experience of the boardgame at all.

So any tutorial or AAR detailing the mechanics and strategy employed would be most appreciated!

This is fun game and not as complicated as it might first appear, although it does have a few quirks.

I think you will find playing against the AI a few times a good way to learn your way around the game. I also suggest checking the opponents wanted, as players often drop out of games, and the remaining players will really appreciate you letting them carry on and can provide you with good tips.

As a beginner avoid playing Britain, it is much tougher than it looks. Russia and France are also relatively hard, but the rest of the powers can tolerate a lot of mistakes and you can still win with them. Prussia, Austria and Turkey offer the best combination of fun things to do, and a good ability to recover from mistakes. Spain is not hard, but somewhat uninteresting.

The PBEM game is a slow paced game, so once you get the hang of the game, it is easy to run multiple games.

spelk, and other newbies, welcome! Please check ou the updated v1.08 User Manual in the \Data\Docs directory. It has more tutorial-type tips and additional helpful info than the original manual had, such as the Player Notes in the back from the original gameboard rules. Until Yearworld finishes a proper tutorial guide with screenshots and such, reviewing the latest manual is pretty good way to start. Read some, play some, read some more, play some more, etc. Enjoy!

Ah right, thanks for the info. I'll look at that doc.

I've been trying to glean some info on how to play it from the Out of Eight review, as silly as that sounds. I've also been watching some of the AAR's on Youtube for inspiration. But the game's UI does seem quite daunting for a total newcomer.

I was intrigued by the game, when I saw a thread for it over at the wargamer.com forums saying you could play the campaign, and export the battles out and play them in Histwar Les Grognards. So I thought I'd check the game out.. but I guess before I get to that stage, I just need to fathom the basic game and its UI.

Any help the folks here could give would be most appreciated. Plus waiting on Yearworld and his updated tutorial...

Hi all,

I am almost done with this tutorial. I should have it finished after the weekend I hope. When you read it please give feedback here or ask me questions at yearworld57@yahoo.com. Would any new players be interested in starting a learning PBEM game? Let me know as I will be willing to play one to answer questions and help people get started.

Yep thanks Yearworld, and I may take you up on your offer. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy the game now. I was waiting for that all inclusive patch so you don't have to patch but one time. Correct me if I was misinformed, but as I understand it the upgrade process is a bit convoluted?

Thats great news Yearworld! Looking forward to reading the tutorial.

I'd be willing to join a newbie "learning" PBEM. As long as the schedule isn't too demanding.

I took a quick look. Very nice dedication.

At first glance, I thought you might want to add a short section on how to host a game.
