I sense I enjoy a different sort of AAR. I would like to invite my most respected opponent FatR to participate in this thread. I do not wish to present my future plans here(probably because I dont have any). But I will really enjoy talking about current or past victories or defeats(with alot of bombbast).

Also all readers be advised I will use psyops against FatR through this AAR to gain advantage in the field. I expect his and my comments to "stir a fire". I privately told him I call this "red meat for the spectators".

This thread is a continuation of a game report that began between FatR and Yubari. The senario is Reluctant Admiral #70.
Date is 21july42. Japs are bombing Pearl and invading Trinket in the Andaman chain.

Good luck...then you are the allies...FATR is quite aggressive as I recall this AAR.

Yes, FatR seems to have been and continues to be aggressive.  He also may be out of gas.

I'm not aggressive, I, as Nemo121 might have said, just prefer to pursue my strategic goals in consistent and decisive maner.

Last turn FatR attemped to suppress Little Andy and PB  w/ naval bombbardment since he cant get the job done w/ LBA.  Unfortunatley he instead caught a 3200ton cargo ship unloading at each port.  I must have about 100 of these El cheapo freight ships nearby...and since the VP level is only 2.2 to 1 maybe I can live with this for a while... so the IJN was spending ammo on these ships rather than shelling my troops.. 

Maybe the IJN TF got some experience points for shooting frieghters, this must be like shooting ducks in a barrel....

Unless you have forts on Trinkat is at, like, level 5, your defenders are doomed now. I'm not sure if this was an accident, or if the British commanders believed that Japanese don't have enough and anti-tank weapons and supplies on the beach, but:

Looks like the attack was cut to pieces before even closing on the Japanese positions. And judging by the small number of attackers, probably an accident after all, but one that was still costly for the Allied garrizon.

Yes, indeed, the commander of the 3rd hussars disobayed direct orders leading his men to a certain death (an leading by example, he died w/ his men)in the false belief that japanese troops could be conquered w/ US Grant tanks alone.


A valiant effort by the 3rd hussars who proved that attack thru a jungle hex w/ tanks alone is not a good idea.

In other news, BB TFs continue to try to shell L'il andaman and PB w/ varying success.  Probably good target practice but a waste of shells as these Tfs keep sinking one 3200 cargo ship every turn.....and this turn they ran into some coastal minesweepers on the way to the target......

July 22, 00:52 PM aboard battleship Nagato detached to provide bombardment support for the combined assault on Trinkat: "What do you mean we didn't load flares for our floatplanes?"

July 22, 10:12 PM on the lead plane in the formation of Topsies, carrying paratroopers of 2nd Raiding Regiment to Trinkat, upon withnessing flak barrage so thick it seems like a cloud: "How can this be?!? Navy bastards promised to suppress their fire positions!"

July 22, 6:47 AM in the improvised HQ of 2nd Raiding Regiment within the Japanese perimeter of Trinkat that dramatically failed to expand this day: "Well, at least all companies are accounted for on this side of the frontline. Good, looks like we're in for a long stay..."


In other words, this might have ended the same anyway, but I forgot to order floatplanes of my bombardment TF to recon Trinkat and serve as artillery spotters. So my shock attack has failed, thankfully without much destroyed squads.

The 17th Indian division just keeps airlifting in...this is what I call AIRMOBLE. Talk about flack, I have never seen 30 flak hits in one turn. I need to look closely at that unit, see what makes it so special.

Gods of Japan were benevolent to Admiral Nishimura today, as shells that impacted his cruisers in the battle off Sabang, punched right through, failed to explode properly, or hit nonessential parts. Opposed Americans weren't nearly that lucky, so, despite the screwup that allowed them to bombard the Sabang airfield, they paid for their audacity with a heavy cruiser and at least one destroyer.

Morning of July 30th, Combined Fleet HQ somewhere in the Pacific (location classified):

Young Navy officer with the latest dispatches from Andamans to Admiral Yamamoto: "...joint command on Trinkat required ships to transport five thousand prisoners from the island. Seized Allied supply dumps were nearly empty, and they exhibit concern about their ability to feed them. Also, 22nd Air Flotilla reports that over the last three days its divebomber force sank two large minelayers, one auxilary ship and one small transport certainly and damaged up to six more enemy ships in the waters around Trinkat. It is assumed that these ships were involved in attempts to resupply the Allied garrizon or conduct minelaying operations in the area."

Admiral Yamamoto: "Oh well. Why the Army couldn't have waited a week more before seizing the island? We don't get this sort of results every day."

Bigred, you should know that ships are often reported sunk when their flotation damage increases at sea... This is a known code quirk, so, I think it's fair to warn you not to raise your hopes too high .

I see the IJN thinks they can own the world...
