Swamps...

Post by GBS »

I had a 4500 man regiment hold against 55,000 men who attacked them in a swamp. Just one example. What do you do with these, especially since 50% of the map around Leningrad is Swamp. I try to just bypass them but am being slowed by their ZOC. This brings up another point. If a unit is bunkered up in a swampy area and is hard to move, I don't see how they can project any ZOC into an ajoining hex.... especially one that is clear.
I would really appreciate some examples of how the successful commanders have dealt with these swampy russians.

I don't think there are many. As I see it now, the lower engagement ranges and intrinsic advantages have way too much effect on non-motorized attackers. I had only noticed the effect it had on motorized attackers during testing as I mostly played as the Soviets or as the Axis in 1942 (no swamps to worry about), but the results I'm getting are also out of whack.

Wow and coming from ComradP that gives it credibility. Wonder what the Developers would recommend?

They're aware of the problems, but are either returning from a break or taking a break currently (Pavel will be on a break this week), so it will take a while to establish what the problem is and how to adjust it, if it's considered to be a real problem.

The main problem for the Axis is their lack of force multipliers to boost the odds a bit, with their small support units and the currently rather questionable performance of the Luftwaffe.

Does a freeze in winter negate the effect of swamps?

It decreases the MP cost for motorized units, but I don't know if it lowers the defensive value of swamps.

It doesn't as far as I could tell. I had several ravaged (6000-7000 man) divisions who held off masses of Soviets during the blizzard. The only reason was those units were in swamp hexes (about the only positive I experienced from the blizzard turns!).
