Odd forming up point ?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Odd forming up point ?

Post by chrisol »

Hi,

I'm just starting with BftB and trying various things with the tutorial. One of the first things that happened was this:
Essentially I want the armour to assault the bridge, so set a forming-up point and an attack target. Rather oddly the AI then decides to send units in column through the attack point to form up in a completely different place. I think this didn't happen if I moved the attack point slightly nearer the bridge objective (though possibly I also moved the FUP in the process).

Can anyone explain what is happening here, as I wouldn't want it to happen in the middle of a big scenario ?
Thanks
Chris

That is odd. Do you have a saved game with the task options for the order you gave. If so please zip and upload it here or send it to me at "support[at]panthergames[dot]com". If not, do you recall what options you had selected for your attack order. If you just used the deafault options then let me know too.

I ran the tutorial scenario and gave attack orders to the 35th Tank Bn as you had done and sure enough I got the same effect. I have investigated and it found that this error occurs only with human ordered attacks andonly if the attack objective is on the far side of a crossing and there are no other alternative routes to it other than the crossing. It could potentially trigger in cases where there is other blocking terrain that effecttively creates a map island.

I have made some mods here to correct this behaviour. This will be in the second patch which I aim to have out by the end of the month
