Request Advice on my 1st Soviet game

Post by heliodorus04 »

I'm about to play Soviets for the first time, in one of the 1941 "Road to" scenarios (not sure which yet), and it's against a similarly (un)skilled, new player in my first PBEM game.

I'm so new I'm not worrying much about spending APs yet (bearing in mind I've only played Axis in Road to Leningrad) - I'm happy to let the computer handle intricacies while I learn basics.

But as a soviet player, I'm really concerned with creating units when I need to. If anyone could give me some advice on that, I'd really appreciate it.

I'd also like to know the thoughts on combining divisions into corps as soviets, and anything else that's fundamentally different with the Soviet side of the game.

Thanks very much.

In "Road to..." scenarios you don't have to worry about creating units (too expensive) or creating corps (not possible). I'd suggest checkerboarding and forming a line/good stack in the objectives you absolutely need to hold. Don't put a 3 unit stack in a city that's going to fall as that's a waste of units for such short scenarios. Try to keep most of your forces intact and roll with the blows.
