Grand Campaign-German vs AI

Post by 2ndACR »

Okay decided to do an AAR of this restart. I have played all the way to 1943 a couple times but always seem to get bogged down really quick up north and even in the Central zone.

Decided to do an AAR so people can offer advice because try as I might, I cannot seem to duplicate the German real life advances and I get hammered extremely hard in the first blizzard. So, I am going to try a different track this time.

Turn 1 has been completed and have cut off large numbers of Russian troops. They are not 100% surrounded so some will escape 100% surrender, but feel it is better than opening the entire front with 1/2 of the Russians routing away.

In the North, goal is to be at Pskov on turn 3 and better yet, to take it before the Russians can form a line there.

Central goal for turn 3 is to be on or near the Dnepr river. The swamps will be cleared by the Cav and 2 Infantry Div advancing and only attacking once the units in the swamp are cut off. I have diverted a Panzer Corp to cut along the southern edge of the swamp to help cut off the swamp.

South goal is to have the Hungary border area cut off from supply by the time 11th Army activates. 2 Panzer Div are sweeping that way. Lvov is already cut off end of turn 1. Also for turn 3, is to get as close to Kiev as possible.

Turn 2 incoming 4 Infantry Div will be sent 3 to North Army and 1 to 11th Army down south to boost strength.

I have held off assigning support until turn 2. For the greater AP I will have.

And turn 1 Casualty report. Super lower than opening the entire front, but should see a huge upswing on turn 2. Again, all advice and comments welcome.

Well that's the first AAR I've seen go in that direction to Tarnopol. And also all those AGC panzers coming down instead of going for Minsk. Interesting to see how this turns out....

Up north you did basically blow the entire front, which I think is the wise move. Need to move really fast and far up there to have any shot at Leningrad.

I like this opening shot.

Thanks for the input. Looks like all us WITP guys are making 2by3 rich. LOL

Okay, Turn 2 complete and Some of the pockets were weak and Russia managed to go back into supply in a couple places, just delays me in killing them.

Got really lucky, 11th Army is now active and the Hungary border is cut off. Up north, every Russian unit south of Riga is dead except for 1 lone infantry div. Panzers have captured Pskov and I have a beach head over that dreaded river.

Central is moving but due to pockets going back into supply, my Infantry have been delayed. I am over the Divena river north of Vitebsk and with luck, it will fall turn 5. I dont think I can take it without infantry support.

2nd Central, as we can see, in the Central area, Russians relinking to supply have delayed my Infantry catching up to the front.

And the Southern sector. Everything West of Lvov is as good as dead in 2 turns. 3 at the most. Staring to sweep north and east to try and bag all the other Russians in a pocket.

I think that panzer NE of Proskurov should have moved just east of Tarnopol and isolated all those Russians in front of Sixth Army. 6th is going to be way behind having to reduce those non-isolated Russians.

Okay, forgot to capture turn 3, but here is turn 4. Dang weather went to mud on me, so that really slowing me up. Captured Tallinn up north, panzers low on fuel across the board even with airlifting. Rail lines are being repaired across the board.

I am going to send 9 Divisions (3 Corp) up north along the coast to smash thru anything the Russians put in the way. Panzers will blitz north from Pskov to link up with those infantry units and also blitz east as quick as possible. Follow up infantry are starting to hit the Russian defense line in the north.

Fuel low in the Central area, almost all pockets have been smashed in the Central area and infantry moving to catch my tankers. My Central Panzer Corp that is sweeping along the southern swamp are starting to turn North and try to catch any Russians left in the swamp.

In the south, Almost the entire Lvov pocket has been destroyed, 6th Army has eliminated alot and are moving east, hampered by mud. North and South Panzers have linked up pocketing a bunch of Russians. 11th Army is advancing east and starting to hammer the Russian line. I have pocketed 3 divisions along the border that the Rumanians will clean up.

Soon I will need to do an admin turn and catch all my HQ's up with the combat units, was going to leap them forward this turn, but holding off due to mud. Still have not attached support to any divisions yet, so will also do that during admin.

Turn 4 North. As you can see, the SS will sweep the island and clear it.
