And finally, turn 4 Casualties. Not sure if I am doing good on the numbers or not.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Casualty numbers look pretty good to me, but I've only played the Sov side, so I'm no expert.
Did you turn off the mud overlay on those southern screenshots, or did the muck not extend that far south? And good for you for trying non-random weather! Is this on Normal difficulty?

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Hi, thanks, at least the numbers look good. Nope, did not turn off. Mud stopped right below Tarnopol running east. Funny, could swear that the manual said never mud during July. But there it is. Normal difficulty.
Turn 6 is complete. Turn 5 was a admin turn of resting and waiting for my infantry to catch up to the front. Only 1 pocket remains to be cleared in the swamps. Looks like sending that extra panzer corp south worked out. I have already bagged 3 Div with at least 3 more units caught.
I never know when to advance my air force forward. They are all still sitting where they started. Should I begin the advance or wait until better rail repairs?

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Here we see the Finnish front. I have blasted thru his line and have cut off a div.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
You need to get the airforce up closer to the front. Your fighters are short ranged.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Turn 6 Northern zone. I have 9 infantry div in 3 Corp advancing along the coast. My panzers have blasted a hole thru his lines and are going to sprint as fast as possible north and east. I always have trouble along that river, but I think I have un-hinged his lines.

Turn 6 Northern Zone part 2. Here we see my infantry starting the hard slog across the rivers, swamps and mountains. I am going to extend 9th Army to the north to allow the 16th to start side stepping north. Going to try and avoid a hole in my lines.

Turn 6 Central Zone 1. Here we see my Infantry starting to arrive on the scene which allowed my Panzers to blast a hole thru his lines towards Smolensk. I have 1 Panzer Div on the south side of the river to help with the crossing of my Infantry.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Turn 6 Central Zone 2. Here 4th Army starts to arrive with 2nd Army close behind. 2nd Army has 2 Corp and 6 Div. 2nd Army will angle towards Chernigov while 4th Army crosses over the Dneper and heads towards Gomel. 4th Army will be stretched thin for the moment from Gomel to Smolensk once the break thru occurs. I am going to strip the Infantry from my panzer Corps and attach them to closest Infantry Corp. 2 Will go to 2nd Army.

Turn 6 Southern Zone 2. Here is 17th Army arriving after clearing all the Lvov pocket. They will punch straight east and help cross the river. I am shifting my tanks south slowly to see if I can bag another pocket. As my infantry arrives and takes the place of my tanks.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Turn 6 Southern Zone 3. Here 11th Army has busted the Russian line and will begin to sweep south and east to create another pocket. I have never managed to get even close to Sevestopol in 41. That is the goal this time. I am going to shift the incoming Panzer Corp that arrives in Sept to 11th Army and see how that works.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Here we have the Central zone, I have completely un-hinged the Russian line and if he does not cut and run, I will bag a slew of units. My AGC Panzer Corp along the south swamp has popped free and is sweeping north un-hinging the Russian swamp line.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
And here is the really juicy prize. Southern zone. I have formed a huge pocket and driven my tanks deep into Russian territory. 1 Panzer unit could possibly cross the river south of Kiev if I am lucky. I should be able to bag most of these units, I don't think they can re-establish supply lines before I can crush them.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Turn 8 has ended. Up north I am hitting strong Div in the swamp. I am slowly shifting 16th Army north.
In the central area, the Russians are pulling back out of the swamps toward Gomel. Russians ran with part of the pocket I was forming near Smolensk, but next turn I will close the door on them.
In the South, a counter attack managed to re-link supply to 1 pocket which I slammed shut this turn. There are 23 divisions cut off across my front that will die next turn. 11th Army has shattered the Russian front wide open and are advancing at full steam.
I will begin to leap my airfields to the front over the next 2 turns. I never know when to start them forward. I like them to be rail supplied at all times, so always wait. What do other people do?
Only posting turn 8 casualties unless anyone wants another.

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
I keep mine as close to the front as feasible.
