Do you think I missed them? (possible spoilers)

Post by shinobu »

I have a Shakturi game going- started in year 2754 and is now year 2800. No Shakturi have turned up so far. I have 90 plus colonies and most of the other 15 races have somewhere between 25-60 colonies. High levels of research all the way around. Does this sound like there's been a bug somewhere and the Shakturi just aren't going to show up, or am I being impatient? I've investigated all known points of interest, etc. At one point (about year 2785), I was drawn to a "ping" (expanding circle) in a gas cloud and there was nothing there. (Can't help but have a nagging feeling that it was "them", but the game messed up in some way...)

Any feedback appreciated.

I've tried to keep myself spoiler free about Shakturis. But, I've heard/read that Shakturis appear when combined military and techonological value of all empires is high enough. And it's pretty high if I understood it righ; Shakturis go into serious killing spree once they get warmed up. Just think about boskara but far worse.
Oh, and minor spoiler: Keep eye out for "Refugees".

Are you positive there was absolutely nothing in that gas cloud? Perhaps the Captain was incompetent at the wheel or forgot to do a more detailed sensor analysis? I've ALWAYS found something at those beacons, I suggest you send another ship to scout it a little more.

I haven't met them yet either but I know what they are capable of... I'm having enough trouble with the Free Trade Consortium, I dread the day I meet the Shakturis.

I once found some refugees,  telling me about their escape,  i think it was a sluken race,  now i cant verify since the game wont  load the saved file since it tells me i dont have enough memory,  sure i made a modification so that there would be more ships in the game,  same as me and the rest of the empires,  and i was at around my hundred years,  no wonder my map was a mess.  Still no sight of them.
*That* is the exploration that awaits you. Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.

2800 - 46 years, I doubt you're even close to seeing them, especially if you're doing slow research.

When they decide to start rolling, you're going to need all the help you can get both Tech wise and Ally wise.

I've just had what seems like a similar experience.  I was drawn by a ping to a gas/storm cloud.  When the explorer got there, it found the usual blue/red ancient capital ship (I think it's usually called "Devastator"), but the ship had apparently been damaged by the storm and couldn't just be boarded as usual.  I thought it might require some repairs and sent for the nearest construction ship, but by the time it arrived, the capital ship was gone.  I'm not sure if it was destroyed by the storm or an AI player might have taken it, but I've since had one additional ping that just leads me back to the same spot, which remains empty....

Ditto here. An hyperdrive dead zone had several ships in a storm, but my constructor couldn't outpace the ongoing damage. The zone was there perpetually, despite the destruction of the abandoned ships.

storm damage can be prevented with more shields, even the most powerful storms will not drain them completly....but they will drain them over time as the storm is faster than the shield recharge rates so aside from more shields having a standby constructor to take over once the first one is in danger and needs to pull back is a good ideea

also, to avoid the little bug that Elrohir525 faced I would use the editor to place a constructor there immediately. It's not very honest but it does allow you to solve this particular problem

It wasn't my constructor that was in danger, it was the ship that it was repairing. Maybe if I put an Area Shield on it, that it might protect the ship it is repairing?

not sure if you can do that with the current editor's options but maybe we can edit out the storm itself for the duration of the reparations :)
that would be awesome, i will check this out
