RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
And Southern Zone, you can just make out both Rail heads next turn. 1 Near Kiev and the other making the turn south towards the Crimea

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Enjoying the AAR.
Doing a great job. [:)]
What is becoming obvious to me by your last screens is that I need to do better with my rail network. Any tips on repair management?
Cheers!

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Well, I make head for rail junctions and then place an army HQ at those junctions, it seems that even without those HQ's having any construction units assigned that the suddenly spread out from there better.
Other than that, I go as straight as possible to the largest number of my troops to keep rail heads as close as possible.

Turn 12.
Cleaning up the pockets and straightening out my lines some. Corps have gotten a little mixed up, so slowly shifting then back around.
North, the Leningrad area is my main focus right now. But with only a month till mud, I don't know if it is possible. Going to try. I usually send the incoming Panzer Corp towards 11th Army. I might send them up North to see if they can help break it open before the mud starts.
Central zone, I bagged the Smolensk pocket. Pushing out from there slowly. I have broken out of the swamps for good now. Thank god for small favors. I really have to start thinking winter lines. Need any advice.
Southern Zone, Kiev pocket destroyed. Armor sweeping out from there. 11th Army is entering the Crimea region. Sort of afraid to push too far due to winter and just don't have the German troops to hold a Blizzard line. I am loath to use any ally in defensive lines except for the mountain troops. Even in the cities. Been burned before.
Here is casualty turn 12

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot.
Haven't gotten to fall/winter yet, so I can't offer anything useful there.
But I'll be watching out to see how things go for you. [;)]

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
I have been thru about 5 Blizzards and they are not fun at all. Once I managed to hold the line against the Russians. But only once. And that was because I stopped dead along the Dneper in Sept and dug everyone in tight with level 4 and 5 forts everywhere. But it was hard to get going again against the high fort levels the Russians built up. I hate attacking across major rivers.
We will very soon see what happens.

Turn 13 North Zone.
I have hit a solid wall north of Noovgordo and that lake. I have busted thru south of the lake, so that is where we will go. It is a weak breakthru, but I will take it.
I have sent the newly arrived XL Panzer Corp north. They are sitting just south of Riga and will rail to Pskov to join the attack.

Turn 13 Central
I have started the next pocket around Vyzma. Pushing strong across the entire front. Looking for that magic spot to begin winter preps.

North Zone 2.
Forgot this one. Another shot of the breakthru area. Sweeping the 16th Army north slowly while I stretch AGC to the north slowly.

And here is the breakthru and pocket in Southern Zone 1.
Panzers are sweeping everything in their path. Infantry following and cleaning up.

Southern Zone 2.
Here, is my nervous spot. 11th Army is across and in the Crimea. I am going to aim for the 3 choke points and dig in hard there. It is the area to the NE of there that worried me. I just do not think (I know) the Allies cannot hold that front and I don't think I can stretch my German units that far. Any ideas?

RE: Grand Campaign-German vs AI
Turn 14. Mainly admin this turn. I made small advances, closing pockets etc. XL Panzer is now on the front lines and will enter combat next turn up north and we will see if that is enough to break the line.
South, I have pushed to the 1st 2 choke points in the Crimea. I am going to try and break the huge stacks the AI has placed there, but doubt it.
Next turn will be the last big push before mud. If it fails, it is time to fall back to winter positions.

Turn 15.......here we go.
I have blasted a very weak hole in the Russian lines up North. Trying to get the AI to unhinge. It is very weak. Armor has blasted thru, but my infantry support will be weak. Not sure if I can hold the line open.
I have an entire Army right on the edge, but they are fighting to create a pocket in the mountains. I am stretched thin across the entire front and just have my doubts about the coming winter. Just not enough troops to hold the line.

Turn 16.
My last chance to isolate Leningrad before the mud is very, very slowly getting there. I am shifting another Panzer Corp to the north from AGC to try and help out.
16th Army starts to make a massive shift to the north. I really hope I can get Leningrad isolated so that I can start reducing that place. Agonizingly slow going. My tankers are tired.

Turn 17.
Looks like isolating Leningrad will be a failure. I got hit with mud right where I did not need it. Now the AI is rushing troops to block my advance. So heartbreaking. So disheartening. But I shall prevail. One way or another, by hook or crook.

That's it!!!
Turn 18,
That is all she wrote. Party over. Time to withdraw before he pockets me. DAMN, so close but waited way to long to shift a bunch of tanks up there. I should have sent 3 Corp worth of armor up there right from the start.
I don't get how everyone else seems to do it. Bums me out.

RE: That's it!!!
You moved too slowly. This is my turn 6 position. At this point, I did HQ buildup of both Pz Groups. Needed to do it twice to actually make it happen.

RE: That's it!!!
Damn, thinking I might start another game just to try a different tactic. I will keep this one going of course.
I always seem to get bogged down outside Pskov and cant break thru fast enough. No matter what I try.
