Feb 1942 Question

Not sure if this is caused by the new patch, shorter supply lines for the Germans (having retreated about 50-70 miles in places), or some deeper triggers within the game itself but my offensive capabilities as the Germans seemed to radically improve overnight on turn 36. No change in weather (still Ice/10), my units in constant retreat, but their CV just went up all along the front. The change was just as sudden as the onset of winter when all units seemed to become helpless overnight.

I understand winter conditions and all of that, but what is it that causes these changes specifically? Is it an assumption that German units are not prepared for winter? And what causes the improvement? My units in many cases are 1/3 of pre-winter strength yet they perform better now than in early December. Even the Romanians are a hair better...Anyone know?

How are your supplies doing now compared to when the blizzard started? (IE, how far is the rail head from your troops now than when blizzard started?).

IIRC, in February the Blizzard effects change from indescribably horrible to absolutely abominable, a great improvement [:D]

I'm closer overall due to retreating and also ongoing rail repair. The change was sudden and ran the length of the front but it was not as pronounced in the south where I am further from the rail heads, so that probably had something to do with it. But I just noticed that the difference was probably that the blizzard itself stopped. I was focused on the ice level and didn't notice that until now...

Blizzard effects become progressively less severe each month.

Are you playing Non-random weather? I think turn 36 is a "snow" turn and so the Blizzard penalties do not apply. The Ice level will probably reduce over the next 3 turns.

No, I'm playing random weather. I think a lot of my problem was supply-related. Still trying to understand the finer points of play, especially in mud and blizzard conditions.

Is it possible to preserve panzers by sending the divisions to winter in Berlin or somewhere else? Will they continue to suffer severe losses even if placed somewhere deep behind the lines? I don't honestly see that as an option given the thinness of the German line that first winter but am curious...

Being in a large city is supposed to help the armor, and little towns provide some help.

Read the manual 22.3.5

Urban protects more than City, which protects more than town
in terms of the number of units that are protected each turn.
