Replacement German Opponent Wanted

Post by comsolut »

First, let me say the German side is not in the best of shape, so it would need an experienced German Player who desires a real challenge.

The game has reached turn ten and my current opponent has surrendered. Early mud caused the elimination of one Panzer Div. On turn nine, two armies managed to surround and eliminate two more panzer divisions, and a motorized inf. div.

The German player has done quite well in the South and devastated the Russian air force.

As the Russian I put up an early fierce defense which will have an impact down the road (low on admin, lost armor, etc.)

Why do I want to continue - because I still need to learn how to handle the first winter (Mud, snow, blizzard) and the rebuilding of the Russian forces. Then eventually I need to learn how to conduct my own armored offensives. All in the light of a fierce defense strategy.

Is the game lost for the Germans - I just don't know. I was not a testor so I don't know how much of a chance the German player still has in 1942. Can the German player still get a draw and keep Berlin. Again, I just don't know.

I do know, I have invested 30 hours in the game and would like to see how the Russian strategy plays out for more than just 1941. Will all games be decided in the first 17 turns - I hope not. It feels like WITE is a very deep game and will reward long term planning, goals, strategy. Again, I am interested as the Russian and also to see how well the Germans can do when the first few turns are not spectacular.

I have contacted my opponent, there are no hard feelings, and he is willing to give the German password directly to the new German opponent (so I will NEVER see the password).

So, are there any German players up to this challenge? If so let me know here or in a PM.

Your turn rate is bit high for me. I can only do 3 turns per week on average. Real life stuff gets in the way a lot for me, but I do keep on plugging away week in and week out.

I have the beta patch so you should make sure you are patched.

AND it is RANDOM weather - I guess I need to make sure my opponents understand that.

If my slow turn rate is not an issue, and you understand the challenges facing the German player, let me know and I will get the file to you, and ask the previous player to email the password to you.

Thanks for the reply.

No guarantee I will face the exact same strategy. The Russian player has to be very adaptive, imho, read tea leaves, get a few strokes of luck, understand the replacement system, etc.

It is only by turn 8-9-10 that some stability starts to take hold. I would prefer to follow through on the strategy I employed and take it into 1942 and 1943.

The first 17 turns are critical to both sides but the game lasts 4 years. Both sides are going to face setbacks and demoralizing moments. Facing that and following through the entire game is my desire and I prefer not to waste the 30 hours already invested.

In all fairness to the original opponent he did not know I choose non-random weather. I will certainly make that a statement in all my future games. I don't want to get into a discussion of non-random weather vs random weather. The game allows both, let players match up that want the same choice. Early mud has caused him all sorts of setbacks. I accept he wants something different from the game experience, just like I want to follow my opening strategy.

Maybe I am being stubborn, maybe I should step back and rethink. I know the Japanese players in WITP faced the same problem. I suspect finding Russian players willing to be pounded on for two years just to get to the point when they can start to retake Russia only to have German players not interested in holding on to Berlin for a draw, could be a real problem. I told both my current opponents I was in for the long haul. Even if I lost Leningrad in 41, Moscow in 42, etc. I knew I could be on the end of a long and painful losing campaign. But the knife cuts both ways.

Again - I want to keep going with this campaign and if someone wants to pick it up good, if not I can find other options.

Pity, but Ican't take over any game on such a basis.

Besides, WITE is quite simple:

Either the Russians are defeated early,or the revenge is dreadfull!!

Hi comsolut, you can take me into consideration for a future game, at the moment I'm short of time but I'd like to give you the challenge you want.
