TOAW 3 Sound Issues

Post by paulolk »

I just bought TOAW 3. I'm running Win 7 on a new laptop. TOAW seems to run ok but I do not have sound!? The intro video is fine re the sound but once I enter the game the "background sound effects and music" are greyed out and the button below re "foreground sound effects" does not work after I check it.
The sound on all my other applications and games is fine. Needless to say I'm disgusted and frustrated. I had plans to order more games but I obviously I want to resolve this first. Thanks.

What patch level are you on? Is it at least 3.2? There is also an OldSound(?) or NewSound(?) option in the Opart 3.ini file in the executable file directory. There is also a 'NoSound' option, I think. See if those work, if they don't either post or email me and we'll look at some other things.

Thanks for your response. I set the compatibility tab to Vista and that fixed it. As far as the patches go, do I have to install them in order or is it good enough to just install the latest one? Thanks again.

Actually, it was Win XP that I set the tab to.

That's weird. 3.4 was developed on windows 7 so you might try turning that off once you've updated. I don't think it does any harm though.

The patches should be cumulative, so you only need to install the latest.

Thanks for your response- the latest patch I see on the website is v3.2. Where can I get 3.4?

I found 3.4 but it created a number of problems that I did not have before. For one, I cannot access the scenario list and the interface in general is screwed up. I'll be asking for a refund.

Sorry to hear that, I'm not sure what went wrong. You might try turning on the classic setting to see if that helps or uninstalling and reinstalling the base and 3.4 patch.
