Night Recon

Apologies if this has already been answered but I am running version 1.03 beta the first turn of the Barbarossa scenario.
When you try to do recon there is no night button option, which doesn't matter too much as I have a lot of daylight recon assets to play with but there are also 4 recon air units (attached to Army Group air HQ's) which I am unable to use even though they are night capable. Is this WAD? or is there a bug that may need to be rectified?

If you mean unable to use those 4 for night missions, I would assume WAD. Visual/photo recon is a bit tricky in the dark. [;)]

Yes, I reported this. The German Go 145C are supposed to be night recce. They are 'Nacht' units, set to operate at night, yet they don't. Regardless of whether night recce is viable or not, they are set to night recce. It needs sorting.

I do not recall a day/night button for recon with 1.02 patch nor am I seeing one with 1.03; there may not have even been one for the original version game.

I agree that it could be difficult but if the game is supposed to be a historical simulation & with a real OOB then they must have found a way of doing something with night recon. otherwise why have the units set for night recon, unless they have been mislabled & are to be used in night bombing missions as pathfinders. But then they would be availiable for night bombing missions

I see now. Wasn't trying to be a smart arse or anything, never realized that's what those units were. I had only glanced at them when mousing over air bases, saw NACHT on those Go-145 units and assumed they were either primitive night fighters or night harassment bombers.  Suppose they could spot fires, headlights, or use a searchlight, etc. Now I'm curious to what/how they did do historically. [:)]

Pulled this from Wikipedia it explains what those Nacht units are but then goes on to say that they were not formed until 42 it also raises the question how should these units be used & should they really be included anyway

In 1935, the Go 145 started service with Luftwaffe training units. The aircraft proved a successful design and production of the Go 145 was taken up by other companies, including AGO, Focke-Wulf and BFW. Licensed versions were also manufactured in Spain and Turkey. The Spanish version, called the CASA 1145-L actually remained in service until long after World War II.[2] Without prototypes 1,182 Go 145 were built in Germany for Luftwaffe service and an unknown number of license-produced Go 145. Further development of the aircraft continued, the Gotha Go 145B was fitted with an enclosed cockpit and wheel spats (an aerodynamic wheel housing on fixed-gear). The Go 145C was developed for gunnery training and was fitted with a single 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 15 machine gun for the rear seat, after removal of flight controls for the rear seat.
By 1942, the Russians began using obsolete aircraft such as the Polikarpov Po-2 to conduct night harassment missions against the Germans. Noting the success of the raids, the Germans began conducting their own night harassment missions with obsolete aircraft on the Eastern Front. In December 1942, the first Störkampfstaffeln (harassment squadron) was established and equipped with Gotha Go 145 and Arado Ar 66. The night harassment units were successful and by October 1943 there were six night harassment squadrons equipped with Gotha Go 145. Also in October 1943, the Störkampfstaffeln were redesignated Nachtschlachtgruppe (NSGr) (night ground attack group, literally night battle group). In March 1945 Nachtschlachtgruppe 5 had 69 Gotha Go 145’s on strength of which 52 were serviceable [3] while Nachtschlachtgruppe 3 in the Courland Pocket had 18 Gotha Go 145’s on strength of which 16 were serviceable.[4] When the war in Europe ended on 8 May 1945 the Gotha Go 145 equipped the majority of the Nachtschlachtgruppe.

In spite of their 'Nacht' and 'recce' designations, playing Russian I just noticed a ground support attack by these things earlier today. They carry little bombs, but don't seem to be very good shots.

Were these the Soviet AC piloted by female crews, the Night Witches?

Gary has informed me that the Go145C is supposed to be a bomber, not a recon aircraft. We're not sure how they ended up as recon planes. These units are supposed to be for night bombing. It's on our list to fix.

These are just test games to check out the fix for game options not being frozen. I wish I had time to actually play more.
