Suugestion for a new what if - BoB

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Suugestion for a new what if - BoB

Post by Lanconic »

Can one of you genius change the stats of the Me109 to mirror the stats of the Zero?
I am curious as to what would happen.

The pro-Zero boys claim the Germans could have won if they had had Zeros instead of Me109

I have my doubts actually. But Range would not be a factor any longer.
That much is certain

If you look at the fact that the front line fighters in the pacific, at least early on, were generally planes like the P-40, P-39 and Hurricane. Planes that were essentially obsolete in Europe, then I think it might be a better argument that the Japanese would have done better with German planes.

Or perhaps another question would be, how good would planes like the Corsair and Bearcat have been against truly first class fighters such as German late war fighters (ie Bf-109K, FW-190D, Ta-152,etc.)

The Zero was certainly a nice design, but IMHO from what I can see historically, the moment it met anything like a modern fighter operating in an well organized system it was at a disadvantage.

Even as early as Midway the US had started to develop tactics such as the "Thatch Weave" that expoloited it's fragility and lack of high speed manouverability.

Might have been a quiet BoB as Zeke only went into service in July 40 and first saw combat on 13 Sept 40.

I'd like to see the RAF's Spits & Hurris replaced by Mustangs and Thunderbolts.

Why wont they give us an editor?

EDTBTR isn't built around an editable Data Base like WITP. The original engine was never intended to allow editing so way too much of the data is hard-coded into the exe. So if you do want to edit the game you'll need to hex edit and theres a very large chance you'll corrupt your exe and ruin the game.

I believe there was a home made "editor" kicking around some time back, but to make the game data accessible would essentially need a completely new engine.

The one thing that has "MADE" WITP & AE so succesful is the editor.

So many improvements and corrections have been made to the vanilla versions and brought the games even closer to historical or provided ahistorical scenarios.

This is what EDBTR needs to keep it going.

I also think that there are many out there than are capable of working the data, dont think that the only computer programmers are at Matrix (or GG or wherever). Also if I try to change it and screw it up , so bet it, I'll start again and keep trying.

Some of the scenarios I would like to see (Western Front only)
The Desert Air War - The Desert Air Force v The Star of Africa
France 40   -  Aerial Blitzkreig
France 41   -  The Long Offensive
France 42  -   The arrival of the USAAC

Plus, as posted, using the Europe Ablaze game, I loved moving aircraft around theatres, Zeke, Hellcat,Corsair & B29 into Europe, tried 1940 USAAC aircraft as either attackers or defenders in the BoB. What if the RAF stuck with daylight bombing etc etc etc.

The possibilities are endless, thus giving the game an extraordinary life (and value to the developers)

At least look for new engines that can handle this rather than keeping us tied to the Model T.

One thing that is always forgotten is that the Zero was developed as a carrier fighter. As a carrier fighter it was unparralled for 1940. But when compared to land based planes outside the Pacific it was not earth shaking.
