Music?

Post by Larsenex »

I am looking for more music from all fronts. From start to combat and everything. Can some post here on how I can either make my own mods OR are there any out there?

Does anyone have good music mods for DW?

I am fond of how Civ 4 had themed music for each period of advancement with Mozart in the Ren era. I would make my own if anyone can detail how.

By the way, I LOVE the DW default music, I just wanted to add to it to spice it up.

Thanks much!

Adding music is easy, just drop mp3 files to \Sounds\Music folder. They will play randomly during the game, with the exception of the title song which you will hear everytime you start the game.

I don't think anyone has made a music mod yet, copyright issues can be problematic (ie redistributing material without the authors permission).

I know for certain that there is a Star Trek music pack on the forum. Look in the Design
and Modding Forum for it. I also believe there may be a Star Wars music pack as well, but
I'm not exactly certain on that one.
Plus as Caerr stated, you can create your own music to hear by following his directions.
If you wish to keep the DW music though, I would create a folder in the Customization
directory to put your new mp3 files in and use it as a theme. But if you're playing a
theme already, you'll need to put the new music directory in the themes directory you have
active (i.e. Distant Worlds/Customization/Your Theme/Sounds/Music).

Aye! Music theme works well, especially if using mods. Speaking of them, there should be some suggestions for custom musics on the mod-list.
BTW. Ehsumrell, customization/Your theme/music works fine also. For example I use Woodmans shipsets and just throw my music folder to Diverse worlds folder and it works.

I just put my Windows Media player to run and control the music with the shortcut  keys.   I use Homeworld Music,  Immediate music or different from that trend,  and use a radio station.

Can anyone direct me to where I can find the Homeworld music that Lord Astraios is describing above? I have some classical music in the folder which is fine but I want more 'space' based mood music...Um, will the Gal Civ files work if I drop em in?

Both the regular and event music in GalCiv2 are in mp3 format. I haven't tried it,
but I don't see why they wouldn't play since they're in the correct format Larsenex.
As far as the music from Homeworld, try this link:

I remember trying out GalCiv2 musics and they should work. They were a bit too quiet for my taste but I'm almost 100% sure they should work.

If you got the games,  you can get them in the directory of each game,  and they also have a soundtrack CD except Homeworld Cataclysm.  Then there is the wikia of homeworld,  but legality of them having the link to download the soundtrack is unknown.

I would suggest the Precursor's Star Control II remix packs. While not all of them are suited, a fair number feels nice in my opinion. Fayalalia is my first pick. You can also go to OverClocked Remix to find many different kinds of music, but it will take time to find something that suits the game. I also recommend playing Star Control II, as it is very interesting how the game is quite amusing but also deadly serious.

Could not agree more with Sabin. I've have "Under a Red Sky" and "Exploration" on my custom playlist and they are so good. Plus the Star Control 2 itself is excellent! a true classic. Those who haven't played it have missed a lot.
Orz are "fingers" of "them".

maaan, J, I just finished a MOO2 run and a test drive for GalCiv2 and was just about ready to get back to the real world (by that I mean DW offcourse) and now I have to look for Star Control also

I stumbled on it a while back but ignored it, now I'm really curious about it.....I'll not be surprised to find a new patch on DW when I get back

Words of advice Data: 1. Keep pencil and paper handy at all times. There's quite a lot of stuff you need to remember in SC2. Heck, if some of my friends would have seen my notes when I was playing SC2 they could have put me in asylum just by showing that paper to doctors. 2. Keep multiple saves and save often. 3. Keep moving. The game has limited time so you can't really just fly around much.
and 4. Don't give up. I finished SC2 on my third try and it's easily one the biggest highlights of my gaming career. "YEEESSS! I did it! In your face Ur-Quans!"

Sorry for off-topic. Still, SC2 has great music and you can get freely. Highly recommended.

J, what great ideas...I just landed on Mercury to pick some radioactives
how come old games had such great potential? not even SR2 now does not have this option even if it comes close
at any rate (and this will be the final word on this as this is not the place for it) great looking game
btw, he's to blame for my DW absence in the coming days [&o]
