Finns attacking south of the No Attack Line?

Post by IdahoNYer »

I didn't think the Finns could attack south of the no attack line until the Germans linked up? I had a Finnish Bde attack a Sec Reg on 8/28/41 with no Germans anywhere close. No other Finnish units could attack any of the other Soviet units, just this one Bde. See below screen shot.

Is this WAD?

No, not WAD. You need to grab a save if you can.

Finnish troops can move over the no attack line (moving is not attacking) if no attack line is not garrisoned.

Finnish troops cannot attack against Soviet troops that garrison no attack line until Leningrad is secured but if Soviet player let them cross no attack line they can advance more but take some moral penalty from it.

It is working as intended this ensure that Soviet player need to keep that border garrisoned and cannot play unhistorically by pulling all troops away from that line by taking advantage of his knowledge that Finnish troops dont attack over the line. Historically Soviet never put any effort on this front unil 1944 but that dosent mean they ever pulled all troops away from the line.

You mean the Finns can attack once they pass through the no attack line?  They only can't attack from the line itself and any area below is ok?
This means Soviet must build a whole wall (of weak units) to prevent the Finns from moving down and subsequently attacking.

That screen shot shows a Finn unit attacking before Leningrad falls. Hence Not  working as designed.

Offensive combat is not possible but attacking in sence of capturing more terrain is possible. This is propably done to prevent Soviet playing unhistorically by pulling all troops away from that front. It is kind of WITE machuria / china Japanese garrison rule from WITP that prevents Japanese unhistorically keep attack and pulling everyhing away from Manchuria.

Even some fort and security units and brigades block finnish from attacking there is no need to deploy strong units not until Leningrad falls. :D

The Finns can do anything and everything above the No-Attack Line

If Leningrad is in Soviet hands, the Finns cannot attack below the No-Attack Line. They can move below it if the Soviet player does not garrison the line, but even a Security unit can stymie the Finns forever.

If the Finns manage to move below the No-Attack Line while Leningrad is in Soviet hands, they can continue to move below it, but they still can't attack.

If Leningrad is in Axis hands, the Finns can both move and attack below the No-Attack Line

The Finns can never move or attack below the No-Move Line.

The screenshot in the OP is not-WAD

Attacking no but they can move over the line.

Manual page 253

Finnish units may never voluntarily move south of hex row 22, nor may they move east of hex
column 110. This line is displayed on the map and labelled the ‘Finnish No Move Line’ (6.1).
In addition, unless Leningrad (Hexes X81, Y16 and X80, Y15) is German controlled, Finnish
ground units may not attack enemy units that are in hexes south of the Svir River, nor may they
attack enemy units in hexes X80,Y14, X81,Y14, X81,Y13 or X82,Y13 or any hexes south of this
line. This line is displayed on the map and labelled the ‘Finnish No Attack Line’ (6.1). Though
there is no prohibition from Finnish units moving into hexes south of this line, even if enemy
controlled,
Finnish units suffer a morale penalty if they are south of the Finnish no attack line.
Finnish morale will drop by one each turn they are south of the no attack line if their morale is
above the Finnish Morale Threshold. The threshold is 65 if one hex over the line, and is reduced
by one for each additional hex south of the line. There is also an additional cumulative morale
reduction of one point for each hex row east of hex row X100 for Finnish units.

Well, then its not WAD - just checked my next turn and the Finns seem to be able to attack south of the Y15 grid. Can't attack anything north of the Y15, but no problems being able to attack multiple Soviet units with multipe Finnish units south of Y15.

Using the 1.03 beta.

I had a similar situation once, in one of the hexes north of L'grad, where a Finnish unit attacked one of my Sov units even though I still held L'grad.  It was in an MP game, so Joel saw it on the server.  Something is not right...

I know they can move south of line.......they should not be able to attack until Leningrad falls. The OP shows an attack south of line

No..they shouldn't be able to attack untill linkup. If you have that and the previous turn savegames, send them to me, Joel, or Pavel with what's going on and what unit is able to attack. A copy of the ss shot here helps when you send in the savegame.

Andy

Edit: Another question..was this against the ai or another player?

I kind of figured as much when I saw the nkvd units along the border and so many Finns south of the no attack line. The ai doesn't usually use those units for that and typically has that line manned pretty early.

Oh..and you can email me at sabre21@intermaxnetworks.com I will need your password and probably that of your opponent..I promise I will only sell them to the highest bidder [:D]

Thanks for the savegame guys. I was easily able to confirm this as a bug and got it sent off to Gary and Pavel.
