Randall, I am lost here. The Hungarians, Romanians and Italians, shouldn't they be in this zone (German AGS)? Or maybe you're trying to say that there should be some German units with these weak minor Axis Allies?

Well, I am not really convinced about this [8D] I have seen the other AARs and the Germans are in general doing more or less what he's doing (I mean, it's only early september). And even if his situation was desperate I would not throw any bone [:D] I simply can't do that, it's my character. If I play (whatever game: pool, ping pong, etc.) it's only for fun --win or lose is irrelevant. But once I'm playing I will do my best to beat my opponent. This is true even when I play with my 7 year-old niece. I can't help it.

I wouldn't show any mercy in a game either....sink or swim IMO.  Defeat sometimes can be the only way to learn.

I meant that having Axis Allies in forward positions means he's stretching his forces a bit.  Maybe it can't be helped.

I see. I can't look now, I sent my turn yesterday. If I remember correctly (and if the recon pilots didn't drink massive amounts of vodka) he has basically concentrated his AGS German units (along with the AGS Panzers) in the north, near Kiev. I guess because now I have retreated in that part of the Dnper, therefore he has a nice hole that his German hordes should exploit [8D]

Turn 13
11 september 1941

Well, I really don't know why Sire Chaos is playing with fire (his Army Group North situation). Is he taking the piss or what? [&:] It does not make any sense. Whatever, I am going to hurl everything I have on this front --the many divisions digging around Leningrad included-- against his rear. Grosso modo initially a minimum of 10 or 15 divisions (and that's only on the main hole). The destruction of his whole Army Group North is I guess a pipe dream BUT I want to literally annihilate all the Panzers of this AGN. That's my big objective.

Therefore I oficially start (who whould have thought it [&:])
Operation
Hey Boo Boo, let's go get us a pic-a-nic basket!

The fact is that except in his AGN now my opponent is active again. Sire Chaos is back! Physically and mentally! [8D] Good!

In the Center Smolensk is still Russian. He's moved his panzers again though. On turn 6 they were in the corridor between Vitebsk and Smolensk. Their attack failed from this position. Then he placed them SE of Smolensk. AND now he has placed them again on that corridor.

It also looks like that he is attacking in the Velikie Luki sector, perhaps he is trying to secure his position in the AGN zone (too late methinks, AND not enough infantry units).

And more in the south, his panzers attacked south of Bryansk, forming a nice pocket [8D]

The divisions near Leningrad that will be initally used. I will bring MORE STAVKA reserves in fact. Finishing the AGN Panzers is not a bad idea [8D]

The good thing about Odessa is...

As he has not given you a retreat hex, when defeated they will auto rout outta the port.

The Panzer bear hug looks promising.

I don't know either why he hasn't protected their rear.

Ah, I didn't know that, thank you [:)] But they will stay in the hex or flee to let's say some port in let's say Crimea? If they keep resisting I guess I should be rotating units (reserves should be in Crimea). I too think these units might earn Guards status pretty soon [8D]

Your opponent is non-learning the hard way about the defensive multiplier of cities.

He's certainly going to have his hands full in the north.

Alright! [8D] Execution of Operation Hey Boo Boo, let's go get us a pic-a-nic basket!

Well, I am throwing everything I have, including the divisions near Leningrad. I will bring more STAVKA reserves by rail: between 5 and 10 divisions, I guess [8D]

The funny thing is that my opponent's firefighter brigade had possibly other "plans"... See next post.

When I saw the map near Velikie Luki I noticed that he had a 3-units stack: one SS motorised brigade, one SS cavalry brigade and one infantry division... It looked like he wanted to intiate offensive operations and form a pocket. They would be the north pincer of such a movement... BUT maybe his plan was more ambitious. A deep penetration and converge with the AGC PzGp that maybe is going to let Smolensk for its infantry and try to form a big pocket... more or less near Velikie Luki. AND then perhaps to resume course towards north to help the AGN to secure ONCE FOR ALL its exposed right flank...

Humm, maybe I have sniffed too much glue, who knows [:D]

Alright... He's moved his panzers in the Smolensk area as I said above [8D] Now they are west of this city. So, given that I will NOT give him this place for free (again, he will have to fight), I have moved my units (like an accordion) and concentrated them NW of the city... in theory the place where his Panzers should strike.

The good thing is that it's here where my forts are BIGGER! Minimum level 3 [8D]

Anyway, also notice that Smolensk is now surrounded (not completely though) by his infantry. If he attacks now (fort level 4) maybe we will have The Smolensk Chainsaw Massacre! Dreaming is free, eh...

I also placed some units to block (well not really) his panzers if his real plan is heading towards the AGN (the 7th cavalry thing, etc.).

In Bryansk he should swallow some divisions, so well done. And of course, my mistake: I still don't know how to calculate the hexes that can be reached by his panzers [8D] Maybe I should have played one of the scenarios [:D]
