Location of Blizzard Zone

Post by madgamer2 »

This is a repeat as i read another post asking the same basic question, The answer was in x&y numbers. Not really understanding such things (no Boy Scout training or Map reading in the army) in exactly how to locate the area of the Blizzard zone , unless it is the whole map and no matter where your units are except urban &city hex's they all take loses. Make the explanation so a old dumb fart with non map skills could understand. heck in WitP I never could find a location on that map by x&y numbers.

In a Nutshell, draw a North/South line going through Stansilav & and East/West line running through Chernovtsy (both near Romanian/Hungarian Soviet border. Anything on the North/East of this angle, and you'll be using an ice pick and a blow torch to drink from your canteen.

Now, that East West line from Chernovtsy, will cut South a bit to the East. Draw a North South line in the hex row immediately East of Kishniev (Romanian Border sector).  Anything East of that line, and you're wishing you were kicking it with Rommel in Tobruk.

*edit here's a quick jpeg showing the rough Western boundary.

You may use "H" shortcut to bring the Find until and search the hex based on it's x,y.

HOLY FROZEN PANZER'S BATMAN! May be in 41 I wijust advance up to the line and wait for the computer AI to come get me. Not sure this would even work against the Russian AI let alone a real human person LOL!!!

Essentially, you step over the start line in '41 and you are in the bad weather zone. Maybe 3 or 4 hexes in places, a few more N of Brest-Litvosk because of the Soviet salent plus the area west of Riga. Coincidence, we don't think so. You either live with the first winter rules or retreat to the start line. I've been in Tallinn and St. Petersburg in January and they just aren't that cold (mind you, I am Canadian, even if I live in weather challenged (not challenging) San Diego). Novosibirsk on the other hand....
