I see that Axis players sometimes have bold plans for 1942.  I am guessing it is from the idea that since the Germans were able to reach as far Stalingrad it can be done here....but that requires a Red Army of similar size here, compared to historical, and i'm not seeing 1941 Soviet losses that close to historical, whether a computer or human Sov player.

I agree... I beleive my '41 offensive did not bag as many SU units as necessary. I was very worrisome to see so many SU units in 42. Also, SU units behave differently in 42. They almost always retreat and rarely route thus an additional wrinkle in attempting to destroy SU units. As you beat into the defensive lines, the retreated unit it attacked again along with a new unit! Frustrating.

I got lucky on all fronts I think. I'll take it though. Tough times still ahead.

I think I stand a good chance at draw. Maybe.

Thanks for Posting the OOB.

I think the Axis are in reasonable shape. It is at this point I usually start to think about cranking up the AI to Challenging. On Normal, she is a pretty poor attacker, and there are no more blizzard penalties for her to take advantage of. If you stay on normal you could get a minor Victory - you only have to be east of the Barbarossa start line.

Keep an eye on your rifle squad numbers, and disband unneeded HQs,CBs etc. to keep rifle squad strength above 24k. At 16k the front line strength is too low and the line can crumble. It happened to me in a 1943 test and it was a horrible sight.

Thanks for the tips. I'll certainly look into that. Truthfully, I have yet to properly learn the production side. I better get at it.

I know you are looking for Turn 53 save files. I don't have it. I do have a turn 56. Would that be useful?

Turn 74

First winter turn. No screen shots. Simply ensuring the various formations up and down the line are organized and prepared. Still some work to do. Still need a German infantry corps to take over the defences of the Crimea approach. It's being railed. The Romanians will support them.

I pulled out of the salient I made in the north. I am still very weak there so need those mountain and panzer divisions to use as back up for now.

Turn 75

The German infantry corp assigned to the Crimea approach has arrived. Also arrived are 3 Romanian infantry corps. The north is settling in. Mobile formations are not on rr tracks for quick redeployment as necessary. The Finns are refitting.

BigA suggests raising the difficulty to Challenging. I respect that idea however I still feel very gun shy from last winter.

Turn 76

Cleaned up some partisan activity. It has been relatively light and easy as all cities are garrisoned. The Crimea defence is ready.

Last SU turn saw 2 AI attacks; one up north against weak German infantry divisions. 7,628 defending vs 54,734 attacking. Losses were similar and the Germans retreated. In the south, The attack was 2.1:1. It too resulted in a retreat. 18K men v 86k men. Lets see what happens next.

1 thing more, Erich Hoepner, commander of the 1st Panzer Army was arrested and executed this turn. If I can figure out why I'll let ya know.

Turn 77

I have adjusted the my mobile forces to better cover the front. All will stay on rail lines for rapid response.

2 more SU attacks. 1 near Kharkov. A German Italian combo that did very well and one near Bryansk. The defending unit in the second attack is more typical of the German infantry. Hence the redeployment of the mobile forces. It also appears that an attack or two might be coming in the vicinity of Smolensk soon.

Turn 78

Blizzard. I am gun shy. Last blizzard season has left me emotionally scared and in need of therapy. Until I see a more “normal” winter season will change nothing! Full defence. Full rebuild. Maximum anti partisan patrols! My unit values plummeted again! Its happening again! Gary G has emotionally scared me and I will not tolerate it! I will complete my winter sitzkrieg, watch in horror as my army melts away again and quiver in the corner a whimpering mass of raw nerves shooing away the dogs that try to pee on me!

I wonder what spring will bring....

(Turns out at the end of last turn (snow) I switched the 1=1 (combat) view to move mode, 1-16. Then this blizzard turn occurred and I saw then entire front's defensive strength cut nearly in half! Damn you Gary!)

Turn 81

Still blizzard. Drat! Could it be true. Could BigA be providing accurate info? There were no AI attacks last turn. I decided to try a counter attack. A hex I lost from an earlier attack was the target. I used 1 infantry division versus 1 arty division. Seemed a fair trial. The arty was routed! Things might be looking up.

Turn 82

Lulling me into a false sense of security, the AI attacks! Also, I am now having to attack Partisans. Otherwise all was quiet. As I type this the SU turn runs in the background and I hear multiple attacks occurring....
