Turn 83

I was impressed with my defence. I counterattacked all the hexes. I forced retreat in 3 and 2 were holds. I did not enter the hexes; no forts.

Turn 84

The AI completed a very similar turn as 83 with similar results.

I counter attacked at all the weak spot and force 14 retreats. Unfortunately 3 hexes held. If this was an attrition game, the AI would be winning. I only achieved a 3:1 ratio for manpower losses. 10:1 for AFVs.

Only the first blizzard is supposed to have a big penalty on the Axis; the rest of the blizzards are just normal effects.

Could BigA be providing accurate info?

I try to base all my advice on my own experience. Sometimes code changes will make me a liar.

Seems like the First winter is leaving mental scars!!!

Mental scars are typically unseen and on the mind. These are pulsating angry red masses of tissue bulging out of my brain pan making everyone look at me funny! [X(]

I do understand the Blizz effects are special and only for the first winter but it sure made me nervious for the next one.

Maybe something to consider though is if the SU AI has been reviewed for all subsequent winters. I can understand all these attacks its making in '41 but now? Some of these attacks are terrible. 1:42 was the worst I saw and it was a delibrate attack. At this rate it will bleed itself dry as I wait for spring.

I understand why you suggest raising the difficultly. Makes perfect sense. I think what I might do is switch sides at some point. Although that might not be a good idea because I have yet to learn a thing about Soviet production.

The next patch should see these "suicide" attacks reduced. She will sometimes make them to reduce entrenchment levels, but I agree some of them are totally crazy.

Turn 85 – 100

I did not post for each turn because the results were the same. Let me explain.

I decided to stop counter attacking except for the most important, appropriate points. This was a difficult task because there were opportunities for an easy win. The thing is, the AI was killing itself far more effectively than I could have. Guys, this GC is not me versus the AI, it seems to be me versus Stalin and Stalin is an idiot.

Let me show you the numbers:

Turn 83_______________________Turn 100________________Difference
Axis losses____________________Axis losses

Men: 2,334,101_________________Men: 2,655,082__________320,981
Guns: 27,949___________________Guns: 34,752____________6,803
AFV: 5,062____________________AFV: 5,426______________364

Soviet losses___________________Soviet Losses

Men: 7,505,701_________________Men: 9,823,815___________2,318,114
Guns: 103,093 __________________Guns: 153,075____________49,982
AFV: 22,478___________________AFV: 40,336______________17,858

The front lines did not change other than a loose 6 or 8 hexes along the front (not deep). The resulting screen shots are a result of this murderous winter. And because I expect more mud turns. I am limiting my encirclements until July.

As for the Air war, I have given up on it. I find the inflexibility and simplicity of it annoying. I believe most of my concerns have already been addressed by others so I look forward to the improvements in subsequent patches.

There might be quite a few unhappy Axis players if the air battle process is fixed; may not be fun if those 12+ K Soviet planes start making an impact like 12+ K. [:D]

Hard to argue with that but as it stands, the air element is too simplistic and restrictive. I would gladly play with a more meaningful and robust air element than what we currently have.

Turn 101

Last turn I took advantage of weak SU positions and clear weather to make 3 small front line encirclements. This turn is mud. The southern encirclement managed to empty for the most part. The rest held time. I attempt a couple clearing attacks but frankly, this is not '41. It will take a turn or two to starve them out now.

Turn 102

Clear.

AGN: Sits. 2 Panzer corps are refitting. If the opportunity presents itself, they will spearhead a drive SE.

AGC: The drive is to the SE; Tula. This begins the northern encirclement of the front line. I overran a few airbases along the way.

AGS: The panzers that surrounded Kharkov have swung north. This begins the southern portions of the encirclement of the front line. I have cut rail lines in an attempt to prevent SU units from escaping by rail. The Italians are helping to fill some holes as well as being flung out to cause havoc. For which side I am uncertain.

The southern most panzer corps attempt 2 more encirclements. The Hungarians are supporting here. The Hungarians are quite good. I have thus far had success with them. Some German infantry and Romanians are holding the southern most flank.

Eh Mynok. Ya they really are. The entire front sat in a state of refit since last October and before that the offensive opportunites were lacking so they spent a great deal of time recovering from the '41 blizzards.

Turn 103

Clear

Last turn I said I was going to create a massive pocket. Well, I feel much better now and I have done the more rational thing.

AGN: Waiting

AGC: The northern wing has circled back on itself and aims to link up with the infantry west of Bryansk. The southern wing has circled west and has linked with the infantry west of Kursk. 2 pockets. Lets see if they hold.

AGS: The are a group of SU units on the coast that are annoying. I am trying to dislodge them by manoeuvre. I am hoping they will vacated without combat. After all, there are 5 Romanian corp that will not stand up to them. The rest of the group has consolidated the pocket and is threatening to breakout NE.
