Sadly it appears that this is the only active AAR in the WITP forum. It does take up lots of time and effort to put something together. This is now running 3 months behind the game and at times it gets a little confusing not to mix the 2 up.

Myitkyina was hit by 38 X Liberators in the mid morning and there was little opposition. Damage was estimated to have been light and 2 planes were damaged.
Near Koumac the 65th Brigade was hit again by Allied aircraft and casualties were thought to have been moderate while no planes were damaged.
Nobody in VMF-222 knew when the orders came for the unit to move to San Francisco that they would marry up with their new planes there. 2LT Robert Irvine of VMF-222 walks the flight line and inspects his new Corsair. His unit now is awaiting transport so they may be deployed to some far flung Pacific base. He can't wait to get his bird into the skies against the Japanese. He rushes off to see the flight surgeon in an attempt to be cleared for flying again. He leaves the hospital in a dejected mood as he was told to return tomorrow afternoon to see the doctor. In the meantime some Corsairs roar by overhead. That night in the mess a couple of the pilots excitedly tell of their first flight in the Corsairs. “That bird is sheer power. Man are they fast! Acceleration galore! The trick on the taxiway is you have to zigzag to see where you're going, but once in the air...”
“Have you seen Lucky? I've looked everywhere for him and nothing,” says a distraught Red.
Cookie shakes his head and replies, “That beast hasn't even come around the galley yet today.”
Palawan's crew organizes a search for the dog and sure enough they find him. It seems that Lucky found a nest of rats and proceeded to dine on the babies after chasing off the adults.
Slim hates to admit it, but he's bored and wonders when the 2nd Marines will get their next task. The new men have been drilled and they can function well at their tasks, but under fire who knows only time will tell.
A letter is delivered to Dave by a messenger from the Standard Oil Company of California (Socal) informing him that his monthly allotment of gasoline will be reduced by 40% effective April 1, 1943. He's more than a little upset because he knows that there's no shortage of gasoline, just rubber. Sandy comes into the garage and sees the look on his face and he just hands her the notice. She reads it and mutters, “damned company.”
The Pentagon has decided to let things proceed along the planned lines and they're taking a wait and see attitude pending what happens over the next couple of months as supplies are moved forward and units refit.

The 1St Marines then attacked the Japanese and gained a little ground. It was thought to have caused heavy casualties among the Japanese troops while the Marines had light losses. The Marines need a rest and refit so they'll be moving to Noumea soon while the Army gets the honor of mopping up.
Kweiyang was hit by Japanese planes for a change and they inflicted moderate damage and light casualties. A lone Helen was seen trailing smoke as it departed. There are to many fighters flying escort for these attacks to be opposed.
A Betty attacked the SS Hake about 140 miles SW of Kagoshima, but the sub managed to avoid being hit thanks to the warning provided by it's radar unit.
As they approach French Frigate Shoals Bill begins to relax a little. They convoy has executed it's mission and so far all is well. Soon they'll arrive at Pearl and then who knows what comes next. Sitting in his cabin Bill writes to Sandy telling her of his loneliness and how much he misses her.
Benham swings lazily at anchor and her crew is itching for something to do. Before any liberty is granted her skipper wants certain tasks performed. The men aren't happy about this, but go about their jobs efficiently. Phil is in command of the ship as LCDR Worthington is ashore handling administrative things at HQs.
Ed will continue to attend planning sessions for Operation Revenge while his old gals get some needed work. A couple of them make ready to sail for the yards in the US for refits.
Stick is still not cleared for flight duty and he's going nuts watching and hearing about the training flights. One of the other pilots jokingly said that Stick would be lucky to ship out with the squadron, given his current condition. Though he doesn't believe that he did have troubles sleeping last night. One thing is certain, VMF-222 has lethal birds now and the pilots are loving it.

A couple of hours later the ground beneath the feet of the men of the 65th Brigade shook as 96 X B-17E and 115 X B-24D rained death down from above. Japanese loses were thought to have been heavy. A naval bombardment of the Japanese troops outside of Koumac hit in the afternoon causing what was thought to have been light casualties.
SS Hake was attacked by 2 X ML 125 miles SW of Kagoshima. No damage to the sub was done.
Kweiyang was attacked and sustained light damage and casualties. No Japanese planes were damaged.
O'Bannon's convoy continues towards Pearl at a steady 8 knots. There was a near collision between 2 AKs last night, but no damage was done. Frank and Bill are talking in the wardroom while having a sandwich. The topic of discussion is the Navy's program of taking veteran sailors from ships, replacing them with newly trained (green) men so that new ships will have some veterans on board to insure their smooth operation. “I wonder who we'll be losing this time around,” says Frank.
The Tarpon arrived in Noumea and promptly tied up at a dock. Her crew was granted liberty, though it's being done in shifts.
Cookie, Red and Lucky are spending the day ashore and as they walk along they suddenly hear, “Hey Red, how are ya?” They have stumbled into some of Tarpon's crew and after a brief argument with the bar's owner they join the submariners for a drink, with Lucky. The dog is always a big hit wherever he goes and today is no exception as the barmaid pays more attention to the dog than the sailors. She feeds him some scraps of meat and gives him water. She doesn't know it yet, but she's made a friend for life. The men share tales of what they've been going through and toast to victory and long life.
Dave savors his morning cup of coffee and says, “If there's one thing to get me going and pave the way for a good day it's some hot coffee. I'm going to really try and conserve a bit to make it last through the month this time.” Sandy smiles and hands him a plate of flapjacks, eggs and maple syrup. He continues with, “Life is good. This is a meal fit for a king. What did I ever do to deserve such a wonderful daughter? No, don't answer that because we both know that the stork didn't bring you,” he laughs.
Stick is suffering more from depression than any injury he had from the crash. All of his pals are getting to know their Corsairs while he just cools his heels. The squadron commander actually gave him some administrative duties to attend to “Since you can't do anything else for a while.” He complained that he's a pilot, not a clerk to no avail.
The man known to Pete and Sylvia only as John Doe left yesterday and still hasn't returned. They both discuss this and wonder what he's up to. “Syl we better forget about it as his type don't want you to know about them.”
Meanwhile John Doe and CDR Eric Feldt are meeting in Cooktown and trying to work something out to their mutual benefit. Eric has the Special Ops working under his command and John needs information. It isn't long before they agree on a course of action to try and obtain information about the Japanese in Australia.

The Japanese troops outside of Koumac were subjected to another naval bombardment. It was thought that they suffered moderate casualties. The 65th Brigade was hit again by Allied air power and the Japanese had moderate loses. No Allied planes were damaged. Another air attack on the 65th Brigade by Flying Fortresses and Liberators caused additional moderate casualties later in the day.
Gili Gili's defenses were tested by 69 X B-17E and the Japanese put up 14 X Zero, 3 X Jack and 15 X Tony. 11 X Zero were destroyed (3 damaged), 3 X Tony were downed (9 damaged), 3 X Jack destroyed with another burning on the airfield and a Mavis was destroyed on the ground. The airbase was reported to have sustained moderate damage and troops were thought to have had light casualties while 6 X B-17E were shot down and another 42 were damaged.
Kweiyang was attacked by Helens escorted by Tojos and the base sustained moderate damage and the troops had light casualties. No Japanese planes were hit.
SS Amberjack was attacked by DDs about 40 miles NE of Aparri and suffered minor damage. The Amberjack was attacked again in the afternoon by DDs and she suffered additional light damage.
SS Scorpion tried to attack some Japanese ships, but she was attacked by IJN ASW forces about 33 miles NE of Batan Island and suffered minor damage.
SS Hake was attacked by ASW forces about 129 miles SE of Nagasaki, but she made good her escape unharmed.
The crew of the O'Bannon is steadily becoming more and more excited at the prospect of reaching Pearl Harbor the day after tomorrow. It's increasingly hard for the crew to stay focused as the natural tendency to relax when you are in “safe” waters takes over. To combat this potential for laxness the officers have stepped up the frequency of drills to keep the men sharp. O'Bannon's record hasn't gone unnoticed.
Benham has received her orders and will be sailing with the next outbound convoy for points south and west. Phil hides his disappointment and goes about his duties in the manner expected of a naval officer. His skipper has submitted reports on all of the officers on the Benham and their performance. Phil hopes for a ship of his own and from what he sees with the rapid expansion of the USN unless he screws up his dreams should become a reality.
The orders for the 1st Marine Division to stand down have been issued and other than patrols the men try to relax while the Army troops start to filter into the front lines in the Koumac area. Major Smith is busily holding meetings with his Army counterparts so that they hit the ground running and hopefully mop up the remaining Japanese troops quickly with minimal casualties.
A letter appeared today for Sandy from Bill. It's another old one, but she doesn't care as it's something from him.
Red and Cookie have plans to meet with more of Tarpon's crew this evening for a bite to eat and a nip or two. Captain Demesa reminds them to keep an eye on Lucky as him straying off would be a huge hit to the crew's morale and a certain barmaid would be happy to adopt him. The three of them share a laugh about it.
CDR Wallace of the SS Tarpon has a little talk with the crew about staying out of trouble as Shore Patrol brought 2 men back this morning after they sobered up in the brig.
Bomber Command reported their first effective attack on Essen using “Oboe.”

Gili Gili's defenses were tested by 69 X B-17E and the Japanese put up 14 X Zero, 3 X Jack and 15 X Tony. 11 X Zero were destroyed (3 damaged), 3 X Tony were downed (9 damaged), 3 X Jack destroyed with another burning on the airfield and a Mavis was destroyed on the ground. The airbase was reported to have sustained moderate damage and troops were thought to have had light casualties while 6 X B-17E were shot down and another 42 were damaged.
Kweiyang was attacked by Helens escorted by Tojos and the base sustained moderate damage and the troops had light casualties. No Japanese planes were hit.
SS Amberjack was attacked by DDs about 40 miles NE of Aparri and suffered minor damage. The Amberjack was attacked again in the afternoon by DDs and she suffered additional light damage.
SS Scorpion tried to attack some Japanese ships, but she was attacked by IJN ASW forces about 33 miles NE of Batan Island and suffered minor damage.
SS Hake was attacked by ASW forces about 129 miles SE of Nagasaki, but she made good her escape unharmed.
The crew of the O'Bannon is steadily becoming more and more excited at the prospect of reaching Pearl Harbor the day after tomorrow. It's increasingly hard for the crew to stay focused as the natural tendency to relax when you are in “safe” waters takes over. To combat this potential for laxness the officers have stepped up the frequency of drills to keep the men sharp. O'Bannon's record hasn't gone unnoticed.
Benham has received her orders and will be sailing with the next outbound convoy for points south and west. Phil hides his disappointment and goes about his duties in the manner expected of a naval officer. His skipper has submitted reports on all of the officers on the Benham and their performance. Phil hopes for a ship of his own and from what he sees with the rapid expansion of the USN unless he screws up his dreams should become a reality.
The orders for the 1st Marine Division to stand down have been issued and other than patrols the men try to relax while the Army troops start to filter into the front lines in the Koumac area. Major Smith is busily holding meetings with his Army counterparts so that they hit the ground running and hopefully mop up the remaining Japanese troops quickly with minimal casualties.
A letter appeared today for Sandy from Bill. It's another old one, but she doesn't care as it's something from him.
Red and Cookie have plans to meet with more of Tarpon's crew this evening for a bite to eat and a nip or two. Captain Demesa reminds them to keep an eye on Lucky as him straying off would be a huge hit to the crew's morale and a certain barmaid would be happy to adopt him. The three of them share a laugh about it.
CDR Wallace of the SS Tarpon has a little talk with the crew about staying out of trouble as Shore Patrol brought 2 men back this morning after they sobered up in the brig.

45 X P-38G swept Wyndham and were greeted by 11 X Oscar, 15 X Tojo and 20 X Tony. The Allied pilots did well considering that they got their baptism of fire today and they are still at bit green. 7 X Oscars went down and 3 X Tony died also at the cost of 10 X P-38G shot down and 8 others damaged.
The 65th Brigade was hit again from the air and casualties were thought to have been heavy. All Allied planes departed after expending their ordinance unharmed.
At Makin 18 X Betty appeared and attacked the unloading AKs. They were unescorted and challenged by 16 X F4U-1 so the ensuing fight was a lopsided victory for the new Allied planes. 6 X Betty were destroyed and another 6 were damaged while 4 X F4U-1 were damaged. No ships were harmed in the attack. This was the first taste of combat for the Corsairs and they did well, especially considering that their pilots had very limited experience. Not to much later another 6 X Betty appeared and 12 X F4U-1 and 12 X P-38G were on station. A lone Betty was destroyed and one Allied plane of each type was damaged. The Bettys ran and never got within sight of their intended targets.
Kweiyang underwent it's daily dose of bombs that caused moderate damage and light casualties. A Helen was reportedly hit by ground fire.
A sub attack on two USN DMs was attempted about 189 miles NE of Tarawa. No hits were scored and the sub wasn't located by it's intended targets.
The SS Flying Fish attacked a small convoy 68 miles NW of Kwajalein and put 2 torpedoes into an AP. The escorts never located their tormentor.
At a meeting there are merchant ship captains and DD skippers assembled. Benham will sail as part of the escort. The mission is to resupply islands in SOPAC and SWPAC. Departure is scheduled for tomorrow in the early morning as soon as loading is done. The further they get from Pearl the smaller the convoy will become and the more vulnerable to attack as there will also be fewer escorts. The logistics of fighting a war spread out over thousands of miles of ocean is a daunting task and Phil realizes that not only replenishment of base's stocks are needed as stockpiles are built up with an eye towards future needs.
The Australian Ambassador leaves the White House with promises of additional support by the United States, something that London refused to do.

A naval bombardment of the Koumac area wakened the Japanese troops just before dawn. Casualties were thought to have been moderate. The 65th Brigade was then attacked by Allied aircraft after the naval bombardment ended and it was estimated that Japanese troops suffered additional moderate casualties. No Allied planes were damaged in the raid. The 84th Naval Guard Unit outside of Koumac was targeted by 196 heavy bombers and once they were done hitting the Japanese positions the casualties were thought to have been very heavy. No planes were damaged. The USA 25th Division, which has finally relieved the 1st Marines, who are heading back to Noumea, attacked Japanese positions outside of Koumac. They took lots of ground and caused heavy casualties while sustaining light loses of their own. Still the Japanese refuse to surrender.
Mandalay was attacked by 24 X Blenheim, 12 X Wellington, 36 X Liberator, 62 X B-25C and 77 X P-38G. The Japanese countered this force with 42 X Zero and 22 X Jack. The loses on both sides were reportedly heavy as the debriefing summary at Imphal gave the following results in the official report. 32 X Zero destroyed, 19 X Jack destroyed, 2 X Dinah destroyed on the ground and moderate damage was done to the base. Japanese troop casualties were thought to have been moderately light. Allied loses were 3 X Blenheim shot down, 2 X Wellington damaged, 7 X Liberator damaged, a B-25C lost (2 damaged) and 22 X P-38G downed (10 damaged). A bloody affair, but one that in the long run will hopefully favor the Allied cause.

Despite the counter made by the escorts the sub slipped away to resume her patrol as the depth charges never were dropped close enough to the sub to do any damage. The torpedoes have been improved and with radar the USN subs are rapidly turning into killers instead of targets.

Upon his arrival he's informed that it appears to have been a false sonar contact, but they'll keep searching just to be sure. Phil heads back to his cabin and stops for a little something to eat on the way. They are in a trailing position at the moment and are checking a possible sub contact when suddenly the sonar goes dead. The men scramble to fix the unit and Phil can do nothing except to wait and let them do their jobs.
Ed reads the readiness reports for his old battle line and sees that the ships are getting the needed attention so they'll be ready for the next operation. He's been buried with administrative duties and is itching to be back at sea. He stretches and heads for his temporary office where an orderly hands him a letter from his niece, Elaine. She asks how he's doing and if he knows where Bill is. He sighs and thinks that the girl, though trivial, never gives up. He sits at his desk, puts his feet up and almost immediately falls asleep.
“You know that the downside of owning your own business is being able to get away from it,” says Pete. “I knew a man who always said that people with money didn't have the time for vacations and the people with the time had no money.” Sylvia playfully hits him on the top of his head and tells him not to worry about such things until after the war. “I haven't seen our friendly spy around lately, have you Mrs. Myers?” He playfully adds, “Maybe they're just trying to find a job daunting enough that they'll need me to do it.”

The SS Drum attacked some IJN MSWs and a DD 141 miles from Wyndham. She managed to torpedo an MSW, which sank almost immediately. After reloading her torpedo tubes the Drum tried to attack again, but couldn't manage to get into a decent position to launch her fish.

Cookie takes Lucky for a long walk every afternoon and he's decided that he and Red should explore the possibilities of buying land here too. Red isn't to keen on the idea, but as usual he listens to what Cookie has to say.
Stalin informs the Japanese government that it is his intention to strengthen the garrison of Sunwu. The justification given is the large number of IJA units in the area. He doesn't inform them of the plans being jointly developed with the Americans. Stalin firmly believes that the Allies will win the war and that he can influence and possibly control Roosevelt, not that pain Churchill though. With the Germans reeling since their crushing defeat at Stalingrad the Russians have kept up the pressure and only logistics are holding them back now. Stalin mulls his situation facing the Japanese and decides that for now the status quo will hold and once the air groups get new plane types and the Americans are in position to support him he'll attack.

The IJA 65th Brigade, which has been abandoned by their country, underwent an awful hammering administered by 86 X B-17E and 83 X B-24D. Reports indicated that the Japanese sustained heavy casualties and no planes were damaged. The USA 25th Division attacked the Japanese troops in the Koumac area and losses to both sides were light.
The Gull Force Battalion was attacked by 6 X Betty just outside of the main Allied blocking positions that protect Alice Sprigs and Townsville and neither side had any loses.
It was a peaceful day at Sian until 25 X Oscar, 31 X Tojo and 12 X Tony appeared looking for trouble. The Chinese troops watched the Japanese planes milling around in the sky and then they left because there was no opposition offered by the Chinese.
At Kweiyang it was a different story as 31 X Nick, 19 X Jack and 2 X Tojo attacked the base doing moderate damage. A Dinah that was snooping around got shot up a bit by the ground forces.
“It's jungle and to far from a nice beach, forget it. Let's go this guy is just wasting our time,” says Red to Cookie. “Mister we told you what we were interested in and you take us here? This is nothing that we indicated and we've got better things to do than look at anything else you have.” Red turns and walks away with Cookie and Lucky.
“Come on Doc I'm fit as a fiddle,” say Stick to the doctor who is examining him. Somehow Stick has managed to see a different doctor and this does clear him for flight status. Stick practically flies out of the base hospital and returns to his squadron area more exited than he can ever remember being. Now he has to wait for the paperwork to arrive so than he may return to flight status.
Slim relaxes as he listens to Gunny talking to the other sergeants of the platoon. It seems that something is in the air and it's more than scuttlebutt. Well whatever it is he can wait as that's what Marines do best.
Sandy got another letter today and again it's an old one that somehow got misdirected. She reads it and thinks of how a gentle soul like Bill could fight a war. She has a discussion with Dave and his response was that Bill is a warrior through and through. “He's got a good head on his shoulders and he deals well with other people. He's the kind of officer who cares for his men more than how to get himself promoted.”

A naval bombardment of the the Japanese troops around Koumac was executed in the predawn hours inflicting light casualties. The USA 25th Division again attacked the Japanese after the ships retired with both sides taking light casualties.
The Gull Force Battalion was attacked by 11 X Oscar and 39 X Helen. The Aussies suffered moderate casualties and reportedly claimed to have damaged 8 X Helen.
Benham and her charges continue on course to deliver the goods that they carry. So far there has been nothing to upset the routine save for an occasional sonar contact (that ends up being lost). Phil is learning to relax on these missions. Not the kind of relaxation that could be considered laxness, but rather a peaceful feeling. Benham is in her usual trailing position and Phil is in the wardroom playing cards with another officer who's off duty. They talk about pre war days and their hopes and plans for after the fighting ends.
Slim is driving an orderly crazy as he constantly hovers waiting for his paper work to arrive. Finally the man says, “Look sir, you might as well get some chow. Even if the papers arrive now the schedule for today's flights are posted and final. I can't change the schedule and the skipper won't either.” With that Slim finally leaves HQs and wanders off with a forlorn look on his face. He knows that tomorrow's flights will be planned this afternoon and if his clearance hasn't arrived another day will be lost.
The 1st Marines are moving through LaFoa on their way back to an area outside of Noumea that has been set aside for them. Major Smith has managed transport and is sitting in his jeep watching the weary Marines go by. He will suggest to his CO that the unit needs time to refit before further action.
Pete has arranged for Milt to tend to the pub for him as Sylvia has the day off from the hospital and Pete has planned a day for them to be together. They stroll through the park and talk about things. He thinks that life has been as unpredictable as one could imagine as far as he's concerned. He never would've thought that the Pirates would end up leading to his being married. Sylvia is also lost in thought as she enjoys being with Pete so much. She feels that no harm can come to her when he's around. The whole world has gone crazy and they have this peaceful day together.
North Atlantic convoy ONS-169 was attacked by a wolf pack. Over the course of 2 days 17 ships will be sunk and 2 U-boats will pay the price.

Mandalay was attacked by 23 X Blenheim, 39 X Liberator, 56 X B-25C and 62 X P-38G. The Japanese put up 32 X Zero, 9 X Jack and 4 X Tony to oppose the raid which tore through them. Total Japanese plane loses in the air and on the ground were placed at 32 X Zero, 12 X Jack, 6 X Tony and 2 X Dinah. The base had heavy damage and ground troops sustained heavy casualties. Allied loses were a Blenheim, a Liberator and 17 P-38G destroyed while a Blenheim, a Liberator, a B-25C and 9 X P-38G were damaged. These are the kind of results which will enable the Allies to gain supremacy in the air in this area.
Gull Force Battalion was hit from the air again and it sustained light casualties and damaged a Helen. Later some Bettys appeared are dumped their bombs wide of the target, causing no casualties and getting 2 planes damaged.
The USA 25th Division attacked the Japanese troops in the jungles near Koumac, inflicting very heavy casualties while American loses were extremely light. In his report MGen CL Mullins, CO of the 25th, states that Japanese resistance is light, scattered and futile. He goes on to say that they will not give up the fight and when the Japanese run out of ammo they use the bayonet.
Kweiyang sustained it's daily dose of Japanese bombs and had moderate damage and very light casualties. No Japanese planes were damaged. The Nationalists are complaining to Washington that they need to have better planes if they are to continue to fight against the Japanese. The outdated Russian plane types are no match for what they face and lack the range needed to do battle. Washington has provided some B-25Js and informs the Chinese that fighters are in tight supply at the moment and as soon as possible planes will be sent to help them. This answer does little to placate the Chinese, but they know better than to bite the hand that feeds them.
Passing through the Line Islands the convoy has so far had a quiet journey with only false sonar contacts. Phil would be much more relaxed if there was some air cover and ASW aircraft with them, but the USN has other priorities. Later Phil is speaking to the Chief and they are discussing how Benham is holding up. Their ship is scheduled to undergo a refit upon returning to Pearl, but they know that the demands of the service come first.

Dave is busy fixing a master cylinder so that the brakes on the car that he's fixing will work. Normally he'd order a new part, but if and when it would arrive make it an option that is out of the question. Dave wonders how farmers and other businesses that are important to the war effort manage to keep things running when the military gets dibs on everything.

Mandalay was attacked by 23 X Blenheim, 39 X Liberator, 56 X B-25C and 62 X P-38G. The Japanese put up 32 X Zero, 9 X Jack and 4 X Tony to oppose the raid which tore through them. Total Japanese plane loses in the air and on the ground were placed at 32 X Zero, 12 X Jack, 6 X Tony and 2 X Dinah. The base had heavy damage and ground troops sustained heavy casualties. Allied loses were a Blenheim, a Liberator and 17 P-38G destroyed while a Blenheim, a Liberator, a B-25C and 9 X P-38G were damaged. These are the kind of results which will enable the Allies to gain supremacy in the air in this area.
Gull Force Battalion was hit from the air again and it sustained light casualties and damaged a Helen. Later some Bettys appeared are dumped their bombs wide of the target, causing no casualties and getting 2 planes damaged.
The USA 25th Division attacked the Japanese troops in the jungles near Koumac, inflicting very heavy casualties while American loses were extremely light. In his report MGen CL Mullins, CO of the 25th, states that Japanese resistance is light, scattered and futile. He goes on to say that they will not give up the fight and when the Japanese run out of ammo they use the bayonet.
Kweiyang sustained it's daily dose of Japanese bombs and had moderate damage and very light casualties. No Japanese planes were damaged. The Nationalists are complaining to Washington that they need to have better planes if they are to continue to fight against the Japanese. The outdated Russian plane types are no match for what they face and lack the range needed to do battle. Washington has provided some B-25Js and informs the Chinese that fighters are in tight supply at the moment and as soon as possible planes will be sent to help them. This answer does little to placate the Chinese, but they know better than to bite the hand that feeds them.
Passing through the Line Islands the convoy has so far had a quiet journey with only false sonar contacts. Phil would be much more relaxed if there was some air cover and ASW aircraft with them, but the USN has other priorities. Later Phil is speaking to the Chief and they are discussing how Benham is holding up. Their ship is scheduled to undergo a refit upon returning to Pearl, but they know that the demands of the service come first.

A mere 19 minutes later another air raid on the 65th Brigade took a toll thought to have been moderate. Once again the 25th Division attacked the Japanese with both sides having light casualties.

Stick wobbles his way back into the bar after spending time hugging the porcelain queen in a less than clean men's room. “Here he is,” says one of the pilots, “Our poor Stick has no luck with planes or drinking. I wonder how he is with the ladies?” The 4 other men of VMF-222 there share the laugh.
Stick slurs his response, “I can out fly most of you and it wasn’t my fault that a worn out engine quit on me. As to drinking,” he doesn't finish as re staggers back to the bathroom.
No contacts of any kind were reported today and Phil is busy reading signals from Pearl. No activity of any kind is expected in the area of his convoy. That's not very comforting, he thinks. Besides who would want to bag a tin can when there are juicy AKs and TKs plodding along?” As Phil leaves he hears the men cheerfully saying that he's right and they they don't sound nearly as grim as before.
Slim and his machine gun crew are now a well oiled machine. The division is almost back up to full strength, though so many of the faces are new. The men can't help but wonder where they will go next. Gunny stops by and asks Slim if there's anything that they need. As Slim starts to answer Gunny cuts him off saying, “I'd say by the grin on your face you're about to ask for something that the Corps can't provide for you. When we get off this island you can hunt it down yourself.” He claps Slim on the back, winks and walks off.

The 65th Brigade was attacked by Allied planes and casualties were moderate. All aircraft departed unharmed. Ten minutes later 202 Allied heavy bombers dumped their loads on the hapless Japanese causing very heavy loses. All of the planes headed back to their base without taking any damage.
The base commander at Kweiyang is fuming after yet another unopposed raid on his installation did moderate damage. Though casualties were negligible and a few Nicks were damaged by ground fire he is demanding fighter protection. The response is that there are no planes to send that can stand up to his attackers.
Ichang was raided by 26 X B-25J flown by Chinese pilots. They were opposed by 6 X Tony and though the raid did light damage to the base itself the Japanese had 2 X Helen, and 2 X Jack destroyed on the ground while 2 X Tony were damaged. The bombers departed without being damaged. This is sure to be a morale builder for the Chinese pilots. Now it remains to be seen what the Japanese response will be to this raid.

At Palembang a TK ran into a mine and was observed to have been on fire as a result.

The convoy that is forming in SF harbor is amazing to the men of VMF-222. Most of them had never even seen an ocean except for in the movies before and now there are so many ships. Stick is feeling fine, but he still is dying to get to fly his new bird.
Dave is beginning to surprise himself as he has just finished rebuilding a starter for a Hudson. He admires his work, the car itself and wonders if he'll ever own a vehicle other than his truck. Sandy brings him his lunch and comments on how handy he's getting.
Phil stands on Benham's bridge sweeping the horizon with his binoculars. It's an old habit that's hard to be rid of. He has radar and men straining their eyes while on lookout duty and yet he just is compelled to add 2 more eyes. The convoy is making good time as it continues to slowly eat up the great distances of the Pacific.
Ed is getting antsy and he wants to get back into action, but the shipyards are overloaded with work and he'd swear that the Pentagon is changing plans for the next operation. He doesn't miss the Pentagon or the White House, just knowing what's going on.
“You wouldn't believe how deadly he is,” says a man in Gunny's platoon. “Slim with a machine gun is like the angel of death. I'm just glad he's one of us and not them.” The men have to much time on their hands and nothing to do.
“Yes sir, Mr. President. I certainly will.” George C Marshall turns back to the other officers in the room and informs them that it's all but done. “The Soviets are opening up a few of their bases for us to use. The secret will be in getting into position before the Japanese discover what's afoot.” Everybody is pleased with this as it's a commonly held view that the Japanese forces are already stretched about as far as they can go. Now they go back to the planning for a reshuffling of the troops in Australia and seeing what they can afford to add there.
