This version seems to be much slower than the rest. Only a few years in and my game has slowed to a crawl at 1x.

I think I notice a lot more activity from the private sector and maybe this is slowing things down. Something changed.

More private ships for sure.I have noticed performance slowing.

The private sector builds more ships now to increase migration and the decrease in starting colony resources also results in more active trade routes. If you are playing in the largest galaxies, this could be quite noticeable. I think it's worth the trade-off in terms of game balance for now as we will continue to optimize performance in the future. Keep in mind that you can turn off the display of various ship types in the advanced settings as well to help speed up performance.

interesting, we have another thread where we weigh the gameplay versus 2d/3d and gameplay always wins
now how about gameplay versus performance? i would still go for the gameplay bonuses

It would be good to have a zoom range option for the display.I would like to zoom in more without the non military ships showing up.

Good point.

Also, while we are on zoom, I know this is a rather minor request but can we get some kind of config file or option to set the zooms that the buttons do.  I would like the Sector view to be zoomed in one notch more than it is and the Home zoom to be zoomed out one more notch than it is.  Heh, that sounds so fussy I know, but I have reasons for both:

Sector view: Galaxy background appears oddly pixelated at this zoom (its only minor), zooming in or out by 1 fixes it [&:]
Home view: Big ships less likely to blurry zoomed out by 1, and also I feel its just right to see that slightly bit more in a battle/around a busy port like your homeworld

I do have civilian ships turned off in galaxy view. We need an option to turn it off in zoomed in views as suggested.

I think another effect of the increased private sector is that fuel is now in short supply. At least I've never encountered it on this scale before.

EDIT: Maybe it was just my situation. After building up a few more bases, things seemed to get better. Not sure though.

Kind of odd, but seem to be crashing pretty often with this patch. That is, it's a strange kind of crash; windows says the application has stopped responding, but the game just continues running perfectly and even allows me to save/load. In this particular case I saved right after the 'crash', but I get a new one as soon as I load.

One other thing I have noticed is that the AI empires don't seem very aggressive at all in building starports. Since starports are a very large portion of an empires additional income, this is a weakness when compared to a player.

The AI may need to be weighted more to building starports for its economy than it currently is.

Not only are starports useful for income, their morale/medical components are useful for making colonies not defect to other empires. I think their small ports should be mainly for those components, with larger ports using their space for construction.

Come to think of it, is there a limit on Defense Bases or Resort Stations for a planet?

Aye, that's for sure! But as a temporary workaround, you can use the game editor to "add" all types of spaceports to all of the empires in the game. [:D]

Right now I give the AI three well populated (10+ Billion) and a large starport at each, just to make it more challenging. I can always periodically pause the game and go in to add some starports for the AI, but that is a quick-fix, not THE FIX. [;)]

I wonder if this can be modded somehow....even after it's fixed, it would be interesting to setup scenarios like yours
I know that now you can save the game for example but I'm wishing it for new games as well
