Dakota's range problem?

Post by Hotschi »

September 16, 1943, Allied campaign against the AI - RAAF C-47 Dakota's transporting supply from Cairns to Wau in New Guinea.

I just wonder, extended range of the C-47 is 12 hexes, but the distance Cairns/Wau is 14 hexes, that's 2 hexes more? How can it be possible this supply op works? Both bases are under Allied control.

Transport range is 50% of max range, so that is why, transport planes work bit differently.

To add, extended radius in game means max. radius that aircraft can fly it's mission and come back with original fuel it has. When transport plane flies supplies from base to another base, it is considered it landed and refueled before flying back. I am not sure if you can do supply paradrops outside extended radius..for that reason they should not be able, since they do not land in that case.

You can paradrop supply to units out in the field only up to normal range of the transport aircraft.

I don't have a Dakota range problem, I have a problem trying to get long range bombers from San Francisco to Hawaii. Can you please help me. I'm sure they have enough fuel to make it that far.

If the distance exceeds max. range, they cannot. Historically, planes were stripped off armament and crew members etc. to lessen weight so they could make the transfer flight. Since AE doesn't have that option, often you cannot make air transfer between WC and PH.

Thank You. Now all I have to do is find a way to get those bombers moved.

Air Transport TF. I usually use fast 17 knot AKs or even better if available, dedicated AKVs. Remember to escort them, nothing is so frustrating as having your fast ship and air unit sunk by IJN sub...

Try flying from Eureka, its one hex shorter to PH than SF. You could aslo go via the Aleutions - Midway - PH. The shorter legged Cats can go that way so

There are three range figures for aircraft in WitPAE: normal, extended and maximum. The maximum base-to-base, one-way transfer range is the maximum figure.
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(
