Air Supply Drops

Post by peterw »

I'm playing three versions of Typhoon to get a better handle on game mechanics etc - Human vs Soviet AI, Human vs Axis AI and Human vs Human (both me!). In Turn 2 the Human vs Soviet AI I've been able to use the Air Transport facility (F9) to drop supplies to advanced Panzer Divs but when I try the same thing in Turn 2 of the Human vs Human game I just get a "Transport Aircraft unavailable" message. In both games I've got ready Ju52 units within range and I can't see anything else materially different between the two games. It also doesn't matter if I even choose an eligible target hex immediately next to the Ju52 airbase - in fact no airbase anywhere on the map is bordered in yellow when I press the F9 button in the Human vs Human game. Several bases get the yellow (available) border when I do the same thing in the Human vs Soviet AI game. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I get weirdness with Air Supply as well. Sometimes I get the message 'no transport a/c available' or a very limited list of available a/c. Then I might do some completely unrelated action like a hasty attack somewhere else on the front then try the same Air Supply mission again, and hey presto suddenly half the Luftwaffe is ready to fly the mission. I have no idea why this happens.

Check your % required to fly setting in the air doctrine.  If the % of ready transports is below that value you get the message that there are non-available to fly I think.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I've found the problem however. All my Ju52 units were night mission enabled. Once I switched that off I was able to fly air drop missions OK. How they became night mission enabled in the first place is another matter...

As the Soviets my freshly assigned transports are coming in defaulted to night missions

Perhaps the same is happening to freshly assigned German transports
